Silenced Heartbeats

Running to no avail-

look where it got you.

A handful of tearstains,

hundreds of heartbreaks.

--

So empty, so lost and I can’t find

the way to comfort these thoughts from my mind.

Tired, aching, I feel I should be breaking

yet I stand frozen in time.

--

These tears do not fall

seems they’ve forgotten how,

or maybe they just never learned.

Wish I had them now.

--

So empty, so lost and I can’t find

the way to comfort anyone, myself included.

Praying, aching, to know what I feel

yet I stand frozen in time.

--

The tears fall, but not my own.

Surrounded but apart, and all alone.
