“Real loss only occurs when you lose something that you love more than yourself.”

-Anonymous

I remember the time we went out to the ice cream place by the docks.

It was hot, and the place was crowded.

You got your favorite flavor, and I got it too, because it was your favorite and you said it was really good.

We sat on the bench under the big oak tree, listening to the seagulls and the wind rustling in the leaves.

We talked about fun things and stupid things and that video game we were both playing.

I laughed too hard and my ice cream scoop fell off the cone.

You laughed at me and said you’d trade the rest your ice cream for my cone.

I pouted, and gratefully accepted your ice cream.

You crunched down on my cone and I finished up the last of your favorite ice cream, which I really didn’t like that much.

But you liked it. And I liked what you liked.

They got rid of that flavor though. It wasn’t popular enough.

If you were still here, you would have yelled and demanded your favorite flavor back.

I never get ice cream there anymore.
