From The Sea

Bobbing on the shell of the greatest sea

Drowning in the current of space and time

Endless sky, vast depths, we are all but free

Beating against the sea, riptides we climb

Blue-gray water clasps tight our throats, our doom

Pulling us under with strong cold fingers

Tempests brew; will we escape wat’ry tombs?

Can we pull from the ebb if we linger?

Slipping underneath the ocean’s hard shell

We open large eyes and, frightened, we wait

The black sea embracing us in its swell

We sigh in relief as we learn our fate

In the depths of the black sea lay a pearl

White as the pure dream of a solid world
