I make a little joke,
Smile in that sad way,
I may seem happy,
Only you know it's just a play.

It's what we do,
To make the mood lighter.
I don't want to seem depressed,
When I'm such a fighter.

I know it's not right,
When I sadly smile.
Only you can tell it's fake,
That it's not worthwhile.

But you feel the same,
I can see it in your eyes.
You need to be happy,
Behind all the lies.

Taking it once more,
Creating scars we have to hide.
Running it along our skin,
So we can feel alive.

I would only be a hypocrite,
If I told you to never again,
Release your suffering,
In the form of a sin.

When we are alone,
Because of our demise,
Up in Heaven we'll sit,
And discuss our lives.

We were nothing extraordinary,
There was not standing ovation.
So why are we here,
Having our own special occasion?

He let us write our lives,
And keep the script,
To look back at,
And see where it ripped.

What still amazes me,
Is the whole burned in the paper,
Because of that mistake,
I made that one summer.

So much time was lost,
And so was my soul,
Because I didn't have you,
To make it whole.

Now we sit here,
Trying to not leave any scars,
While sewing our wounds,
Becoming who we are.
