The Lost

There was a time when I knew reality,
Could face it and stare into its cold eyes,
And you would smile back at me.
There was a time when I could sleep.

There's a fire raging above you,
Its smoke is hanging lower now.
Can you taste it? Do you fear it?
Or do you love how it obscures?

There was a time when I knew where I stood,
Could bear it and hope for nothing more,
And you would smile back at me.
There was a time when I was sane.

There's a guillotine looming over you,
Its blade is falling closer now.
Can you see it? Do you fear it?
Or do you love how it gleams?

I think I'm lost now, but I can't be sure.
Sleep is just a dream and my mind reels.
You're not smiling anymore…
I think you're lost too, but I can't be sure.

Because I see the Reaper watching over you,
His scythe is drawing near now.
Can you sense it? Do you fear it?
Or do you love to pretend it's not there?
