one more night
could
not put these wrongs to right
could not change a tide
fixed on
the same compass point
it has always flown to
and from this
heart of channels
the power in my hands can spin so far
and
then it becomes nothing
more than words in the wind
rising
in my head close behind my eyes
is the illumination of a late
summer evening
not so very long ago but still a lifetime
your
hands a new fire rising in my skin
eyes cutting a thick blue swath
across my soul
and the warning making its way from lungs to
lips
covered by your kisses and swept away
I told you I would
not be able to stay.
