today you woke with the corset strapped on
and it was already tied
so you pulled it tighter
and the new year seemed no less brighter,
seemed to frighten
like you didn't know what to make of yourself
without a cover for the girl

so let the patterns feel for you
let stripes wrap round, pull tight, tight, tighter
let's be black and white statements
drink in black and white perfumes
and mix some perfect grey
to paint along strangers' sidewalks

and there is no 'why'
there's no 'how much more'
there's only that phrase they toss our way in envy
how beauty is wasted on the young
so as long we're young
let's waste,
waste,
wasted
just shy of blue and green
and too far off to score

don't take it slow, just take
four bus transfers at a time
confetti over escalators
and one per person never meant less
and caution signs never looked so small
and the radio music from the ceiling speakers,
it's the best damn thing you've heard all day

let's dance
we'll fall through the mirror
i'll let you go first because i love you
i'll let you go first because i don't.
