okay, this one was actually a challenge I found somewhere in this vast desert of the internet - to write a fic that begins with the sentence 'they had nothing to say at each other'. I don't know if it's something like "wow! what a masterpiece!"( probably not...very probably) but I felt like posting it anyway to say hi and tell I’m not dead yet ( yet), so it’s not much... but anyway, enjoy

They had nothing to say at each other.
They didn’t need it, nor did they feel like it.

It was all said and done before anyway, so why would they repeat it, pretending they never did it before? Why would they life on as a defect video, playing over and over the same scene?

As one was watching the other staring back, slowly they began to move towards each. Careful, delicate, like two curious but prudent animals trying to approach each without getting hurt.
Trying to find out how the other was, and how the other would react.

They both knew it would be only a repeat of the previous time, getting into a fight because of something trivial, getting shunned by everyone, always chased to the edge of near suicide, and saying things like all couples said: “I’m sorry”, “no matter what, we stay together”, “they won’t let us down again”.

And they would never say what really mattered: “I love you, come back because I miss you”

Yes, they had finally realized a big mistake they had made, weeks ago, and now it would be too late to go back to that.
Because they knew now, telling someone you love him or her, crying for that person, showing you simply care – is crucial in a relationship.
But bother being afraid of being hurt - of being rejected – had shielded themselves against emotion and had stuck on the standard clinched lines.

How stupid.

They would laugh at the total idiocy of it right now, had not this situation stolen their voice and ability to feel anything.
In unison, like twins, they rose up their glasses, filled with a neutral blank liquid, and brought it to their lips.
One stare, before screwing their eyes shut as they threw it in one gulp in their mouth, tasting the strangest sensation flooding over their tongue and burning their throats.
Now the demons would never get them.

The next day they reached the news:

“Two naked bodies of two boys found in the closed department of the local mental clinic. They were found smiling and holding hands, and seemed to commit suicide when the nurse was on her break. Nobody knows yet how they had obtained the poison with wich they killed themselves. Further investigation is going on.”
