Solitude

Summer air is here,
pressing in hot and sticky.
Wires hum above,
a buzzing ripple through the stillness.
I walk home,
finding silence in solitude as cars putter past.
I see beautiful blue sky,
lonely curved above me.
Lonely. Beautiful.

And my heart rushes back along the isolated path to you.

I close my eyes,
remembering the way you stood.
Lonely. Beautiful.
A glimpse across crowds.
And I knew you would not meet the longing in this last gaze,
because:

You never have.

So I will wait,
until my heart returns to me,
traveling on the isolated path
back to this silence in solitude.
