Enough of squeezed, boxed-in time

Though thousands now stare at screens

Inchoate, delighted time

Boredom's creatures hardly seen

Words come forth - it's time to dream

Time to read with soft silver sheen

It's here, now, it's summer's time

Hours pass, spider's silk spun

Watching the eight-legged lady's labor

Perhaps long-loved friends will come

Sit chatting, beats to savor

Sip smoothies, ponder flavor

Drowsy, relaxed behavior

More profound that simply "fun"

There is active work too - oh

For volunteering or pay

Moments come, both fast and slow

Accomplishment each day

Smiles or cash to take away

Worthwhile: that is what we pray

If not, who is going to know?

There's travel for the well-heeled

Whether beach or new countries

Wanderlust is what we feel

Salt-tanged air and mountain's trees

Flags a-flutter in the breeze

Foreign sights and foreign scenes

With hot spices in your meals

When you are in the attic

Every day, composing poems

Like these, it's a prick

And a gentle prod to bloom

Free from your school's sometimes-tomb

Summer's time is ending soon

This candle has lots of wick
