One little thing from you, my dear

One little last repayment

One little token of your love for me

Though I'm not sure you can do it

I wish you would try

Never doubt again your divine nature

Never besmirch your individual worth

Have a little faith in yourself, my dear

God doesn't make trash

And I don't love phonies

How do you tell the pure gold coin

Who is convinced she is merely pained wood

That she is the real deal, the best of all

Even though people will fight for her

She thinks they're fighting her

It's good to love your enemies, dear

But don't agree with them so often!

Why do you think I cried for weeks

When I left you, and why I let you

Convince me to live?

Why would I struggle to keep you alive

Why would I call you? Why would I write

A story in which you are the purest of love

A story in which you are the Only Begotten Daughter

I love you more than I love other mortals

And so does he, and he hardly loves

Anyone, for the troubles that rend him so cold

Has made him bitter and hard

To all but you!

You're so astonished when the popular kids

Plead for your signature and do you favors

My gosh, might it have to do with

Your saving the spirit of one of their kin?

If you want me to love myself

Show me how to do it!

You showed me how to love others

Show me how to honor your own worth!

If you do not believe me,

Ask of God.

He'll tell you, I promise

Even if you don't think He's there

Just try it. He loves you

He tells me every night

You are the greatest blessing in my life

But to you, your life is not always a blessing

Never doubt again, dearest!

That's what I ask

Even if it takes the rest of your life

Even if it takes a thousand years

Even if it waits till the end of the world

Someday, come to me, please, and say

"I'm glad I have lived, I'm glad

To have contributed. I know that I've been

deserving of my joys, stronger for my sorrows

and sent in the world to help you. The ones

I could not help, it wasn't my fault.

Your love for me is justified.

All of this, all of this joy

Even when it's gone for a while -

That I deserve it, every smile

Every hug, every kiss, every word of every poem

I will never doubt again."
