Amen!
Amen!
She cries in vain
As the shadows creep with unseen talons
There must be someone who can
Help me
But the silken blackness
skulks around her ankles
Snapping playfully at her toes
Like an onyx snake
The twisting sidewinder in agony
It wants to devour her

Oh God!
The words and beads of ivory
Clink together
They shudder like bare bones
Exposed to many days of torment
But she holds out her blessed beads
And she hums sacred words
But still the darkness engulfs her
Where is god in his glimmering chariot?
Why will he not respond to my prayers?

Well, my darling, the shadows purr
If the great deity answered every prayer
He would also have to answer the prayers of
The murderer
The madman
The heretic
The damned
The sinner
Us
You are not important enough
She weeps pitiously
The shadows devour her
