I never lied to you, really, in the midst of your red currant dreams and the scar across your cheek.
I was never pretending
lying in the scent of old champagne
and restless deception.
I never told your secret
the red handprint against my thigh
and the way you could never seem
to stop
groping
me
or the way the mouth moves when the heart dies.
I never told a soul
about all the nights you murdered me
basking in the silver sorrow falling from my eyes
and twisting my agony to cloak you in power.
I never turned you away
I never held you back
I never
left
you
but baby I promise
though I breathe you completely
I will never

ever

love you.
