xxx…

I walked as briskly as I possibly could. I had to get away, for the love of all that was humane I had to get away.

From Mitchell, my ex and now stalker. I mean, I don’t know why the guy hasn’t gotten the hint yet. WE’RE OVER! Have been for nearly six months but the guy still wants to be friends. Which I absolutely could not do. That was the reason we broke up to begin with. It doesn’t matter how cute he was…he’s creepy….

Damn me and my whimsical ways!

Anyway. I’m practically sprinting down the subway station platform, trying everything I possibly could to act like I didn’t see him but…

“Mark!”

I cringe when he calls my name but I’m just too damn nice to keep running; so I stop and sigh dramatically before he can hear me.

“Hey Mitchell. Didn’t see ya there…” I lie, even going as far as to laugh casually.

Then he hugs me…

I gag and try vainly to wriggle out of his embrace but to no avail. He’s got me in a death grip. The bastard.

I’m just too weak and tiny…I look like I’m freaking twelve! It’s not fair! I’m twenty freakin six damn it! Gah!

Once he lets go of me I slide back about three feet. That doesn’t put him off in the least and he closes the space. I can smell his cologne now…then again, he wears so much of the stuff you can smell him from Alaska…

It makes my eyes water…

“Mark, you haven't been returning my calls.” he says brightly. Which just makes it all the more creepy…that’s like a doctor smiling as they tell you your mother died after you hit her with a car…it’s just wrong….

I attempt another step back only to find that I’m right up against the wall to the platform. There’s nowhere for me to go now…

I could take off and run…but if he didn’t catch mine first…I would look insane…and knowing my luck I’d trip and fall into the subway tracks and all that would be left was my left big toe and a six o’clock news story.

Shit.

“Mark. ...” he says, his anger showing through. Oh crap I’m so screwed right now….I might still end up on the news…

I swallow hard, thinking of something to say but nothing comes to mind so I just stand there with my mouth hanging open.

My eyes quickly scan the surrounding area for an escape route or at least a distraction. Hey, I could burst into random song and dance, that would distract him long enough for me to run at the very least.

My eyes fell on a young blonde girl standing about six or seven feet behind Mitchell. She’s got long golden hair and huge brown eyes. And she’s stunning. I mean, I’m gay and she’s still beautiful. But the weirdest part is she’s staring at us.

Her eyes glance from Mitchell to me and back to him. He doesn’t seem to notice and speaks again.

“Mark…” he’s really pissed that I’m not answering him now. And I can tell he wants to hit me…but I’m still too concerned with this girl to pay him much mind.

“Mark!” he takes a step closer to me and that’s when the girl moves. She smiles and steps in front of him, looking dead at me.

“Oh my god…Mark? Is that you buddy? It’s been soooo long!” she grabs my shoulder in a friendly manner and smiles brightly.

Now I’m really confused…who the hell is this chick? I know I don’t know her. What the hell is she doing?

“Mark I cant believe it! We have so much to catch up on! What's it been, five, six years now?” she asks, hugging me. I just stare dumbly at her shoulder.

Her hair is so pretty. I want to touch it. Ooooo, soft….wait. I’m in the middle of being confused now.

“Come on, we have to go have a cup of coffee or something, trade stories.” she turned to Mitchell. “You don’t mind do you?” she didn’t wait for a respond before she was dragging me off in the opposite direction. “Thanks! Bye!” she called to him. He stared after us and I stared back at him as we went around the corner.

Once we were out of his range she stopped and turned to me.

“Hey, sorry bout that, you just looked like you could use some help there.” she smiled at me. Wow she was really pretty. I’m jealous.

“Uh, yeah…thanks…” is all I can manage to say.

“Ex?” she asked knowingly, leaning up against the wall and shuffling through her purse quickly. Hey is that a designer bag? Oooh how cool, she’s really lucky I-…I’m SUCH a queen…

“Yeah, how’d ya know?” I ask. She took out a small thing of pink Lip Smacker Chap Stick and put it on. Mmm Strawberry Ice Cream, that’s my favorite kind.

“I’ve had my fair share of bad ex’s before, don’t feel bad…I just wish someone had helped me when I had trouble with mine…oh well, I survived.” She grinned and dropped the lip-gloss back in her bag and zipped it. “I heard him say your name and the plan just came to me. I’m Shelby by the way.” she said, extending her hand. I take it and she shakes it. Pretty hard. She’s got quite the grip on her. “Shelby Meekes.”

“Um, Mark Hamile. Thanks again.”

“Isn't that a famous guy?” she asks. I sigh.

“Yeah, but mine’s spelled h-a-m-I-l-e, so it’s different.”

“Well Markus, would you like to get that cup of coffee? My treat.” she asks, I can't turn her down. She just saved my life…

I nod and she turns, starting off in the direction I assume is towards a coffee shop.

I can already tell…. she’s awesome.

xxx…

Mmmmm, triple whipped caramel vanilla latte. Delicious….

I sip slowly on my drink, watching Shelby quietly as she greets everyone, half of whom I don’t even think she knows but says hi out of courtesy. And they all say hi back.

If I did that half of my responses would be rude or some form of sign language. It isn’t fair.

She ordered a simple cup of coffee, which made me feel very cheap considering that she was buying, but she insisted otherwise. She seemed like a decent person, so laid back and down to earth but still so proper and kept. I mean, a probably three hundred-dollar purse to carry her seventy-five cent lip-gloss? She was crazy.

But I liked her anyway.

She’s the kind of girl every gay man wants to be his straight best friend, and I had that chance. Ha!

But that’s assuming that she’ll be my friend, there’s no guarantee. So simple enough plan, make conversation, let’s see the girl behind the bag.

“So, um…” I couldn’t really think of anything to say, so I let my voice trail off and looked down at my coffee.

“Are you all gay?” she asked. I looked up at her, a little taken back, but she looks as if it was one of the most normal things to ask upon meeting someone. It’s not that I minded really, I’m not hiding it. It’s just that most people make a point of avoiding such conversations.

“Uh, yeah…always have been…” I said, taking a sip of my drink. Why was I getting embarrassed?

“Oh, I could kinda tell, I mean, no offence, especially with the boyfriend thing..” she smiled at me, this big happy smile that seemed to take over my own emotional status and forced me to smile as well. God why is this so weird?

“I thought about being gay for a while…but I guess right now you could say I’m bi…I mean, I don’t believe you can limit yourself by such standards of sexuality because you never really know what's gonna happen. Love is supposed to take you by surprise, that’s half he fun… I prefer men honestly and its not like I’m going to go searching for girls at bars, but I’m not exactly gonna say it'll never happen…just let life take its course I guess…oh I’m rambling aren't I? I’m sorry." She said, grinning slightly and taking a sip of her coffee.

I shook my head. "No, you've got a good point…" I say quietly, though I've never really thought of it like that before. She had a point…"So have you ever been with a woman before, if you don’t mind me asking of course…"

she smiled. "I experimented with a friend in med school…It just wasn’t my cup of tea. But I’m not gonna judge it by one time…” she said offhandedly. I grinned at her, now I had my conversation starter.

“So you’re a doctor?” I asked, swirling the drink in my hands. She sighed.

“Paediatrician…“

“You don’t seem too happy about it.”

“I like my job and all, I just…it gets to you after a while…seeing all those sick kids…and it kills you when one of them dies, no matter how close you get, you always get hurt…” she whispered over the rim of her cup. I watched her quietly, feeling my insides twist. It was like something from lifetime….and yes I watch lifetime.

“But it’s also worth it when you see the smiles on kids faces when they’re leaving and what not. “ her smile returned.

“Hmm….”

“What about you?” she asked politely.

"Oh, I'm a computer technician…or at least I will be when I finish school, I shouldn’t have dropped out sophomore year…" I said, grinning. I was such a goof back then…

"Oh that’s interesting. I’m like helpless when it comes to electronics…"

"Doesn’t your boyfriend help you?"

"Don’t have one."

"Really? I find that hard to believe…"

"Well, I did have one not too long ago, but evidently I wasn’t enough and he cheated on me with my best friend…"

"Oh I’m sorry…"

"Don’t be, I still see him everyday at the hospital…"

"Does he work there too?"

"Nope, he's in intensive care…" she said with a sly smirk on her face, I could tell she was joking but still…I couldn’t help but laugh…

…xxx…

Walking into my apartment I toss my stuff down on the couch and reach for my keys so I can hang them on the hook in the hallway.

"Hey Kasey! I’m home."

Kasey, my roommate and best friends since the third grade. He was the first one I came out to and he's the one who was with m when I came out to my family. He's also the one that took me in when they kicked me out. He's been my rock for the longest time, though surprisingly I never fell for him. He was my best friend but nothing more…

There was a flush and the sink started not long before Kasey came through the hallway. His short blondish hair tasselled and falling in front of his large brown eyes. He really was gorgeous; I could see why the girls always went after him. He was so different from me.

I had medium length dark brown hair and blue eyes, my skin wasn’t as tan as his and I wasn’t nearly as built. Plus he was a good five inches taller than me… he was the kind of guy you see in underwear commercials and I’m the guy that sits and watches while eating a bag of Cheetos and checking out his butt. And yet we were closer than close. Hell, his ex actually broke up with him because she thought we were lovers. We had a good laugh over that one…

"Hey, Markie! What took ya?" he asked, scratching the back of his head.

"I ran into Mitchell…" I grimaced. He winced.

"Oh, how'd you get away un raped?" he asked, walking into the living room and "gracefully" plopping down on the couch.

"Some one saved me…" I said, my dramatic soap opera skills coming into play.

"Ooooo, was he hot?"

"Actually it was a girl…and yes, she's very pretty…and awesome. I got her phone number." I said, tapping my back pocket where her number was tucked.

He arched his eyebrow, and a playful grin swept over his face. "Hmm, Markie got himself a girlfriend huh? Coming back over to the dark side are we?" he said, voice smooth and cocky, I loved it.

"Nope, you ran out of cookies."

…xxx…

Well, that was my first chappie that I've been working on for the longest time and now I've finally got it done! Wh00t!

Lemme know if I should even bother continuing by leaving me a little review! Please?!
