-1Storm’s Crossing
Exquisite,
Like a lover’s sweet caress is the breath of wind that
Belies a cloud’s arrival,
Touching bases with the rowdy child unconcerned with
The mortal world as adults see it;
This is her dreamscape in which to dance,
Chained with memories of cicada-song and fireflies
In a tapestry woven from the gentle claws
Of a patient arachnid.

Startling
And dangerously seductive are the phantom sylphs
That linger at the fringes of the darkening sky,
Though the maiden may see an island in the clouds,
Strangely enticing in it’s immaterial impossibility…
But the sky seems reminiscent
Of a misty ocean venue, and as such,
Perhaps it is not surprising that the great towers of glimmering
Vapors might concede to a slightly
More comforting presence for the sake
Of their foolish mortal wards.

Exhilarating…
Now that an undulating shadow has covered the land again,
A sense of almost wavering perspective has utterly
Taken over the senses of any who might have
Thought to stand before it’s terrible,
Yet wholly wonderful, power;
It can be seen in a thousand mortal souls rising up to rebel…
Or in the spirit of a stubborn matron,
Too proud to let go of what she can no longer control.

Timeless,
That is all to be said of
The last vestiges of a fading dream,
That murmur of apology that is so forlornly offered
By a welcoming wind,
Fearful of being forgotten in the passing of days
That seems to go so quick in the eye of the wizened crone,
But the weather needn’t have worried;
It’s wards rarely forget the cost for their vast home.
If you’re wondering, this is something of a belated response to the Greensburg, KS tornadoes and the massive thunderstorms all of the Midwest has been suffering. My own home of Salina, KS was hit with enough flooding to decimate one of our woodland areas and burst a levee thirty ft. tall. We’re doing just fine, thankfully, but if anyone sees donations going around for Greensburg and other towns that were hit by twisters or flooding (legit donations, of course), please find it in your hearts to add a little spare change here and there. They’ve lost so much, and gained so little despite the efforts of our own state. I personally love thunderstorms…but I know too well the havoc they wreck on our lowland plains.
Laters,
