September

“I'll always be there.”

That is what you said

For better and for worse was the promise made

I remember those words so clearly

Spoken not only as a friend,

But a sister I loved so dearly

That was then

This is today

Somewhere our relationship has gone astray

Are we still friends?

Or are we not?

You told me once but I don't remember

It was a fair weathered day in late September

Since we last spoke fondly

I to you and you to me,

Lending an understanding ear as friendship should be

But then the weather changed

The season grew dark

And problems arose that tore us apart

I forgave you

But did you do the same for me?

After all isn't that what a friendship should be?

Tell me again

Because I don't remember

I'm still stuck on that fair weathered day,

In late September
