Life had me by the throat,
My feet dangling over the edge.
I closed my eyes and
Prepared to surrender.
I waited, but the pain never came.
Still my eyes were closed,
Afraid of even more pain
Should they be opened
I felt you near me
Though I couldn't see you at all.
You held me close
And coaxed me to open my eyes.
Still I was afraid.
The darkness was comfortable now,
But still you coaxed so sweetly.
My eyes began to flutter.
Slowly they opened to the light,
Welcoming the sight lost for so long.
Then came the most beautiful sight;
Then I saw you.
You smiled and my fears were gone.
And as you spoke and came close
The darkness lifted,
And I was no longer trapped.
You brought me from dark to light.
You showed me love when no one did.
You took me in your arms again,
And never let me go.
