She walks outside to sit in the dark
It’s late and everyone is in bed sleeping
But not her, for she dreads sleep; it is a portal to fear
So she sits on the sidewalk in the cool night air
Looking at the stars she thinks of her choices
The good, the bad, the smart, the dumb
She cringes at careless mistakes and rude words
For a moment she lets go, but the silence gets too loud
It reminds her that she is truly alone in a house full of people
This refuge has its price, and is almost a new prison in its new year
Her tears never stop so she wears sunglasses in public to hide her eyes
It’s her mask on how she feels inside, with all the confusion and turmoil
Thoughts pass through her mind, only a few are worth the time
Those she writes in her notebook
It is the key to unlocking her true insecurities
They continuously eat away at her conscious
A support beam would be nice, since she’s an unstable building
She forgets deep thinking for a minute and draws a long breath
As she blows out it forms a cloud in her face
She looks down the street and begins to walk
Headed to an unknown destination she lets life go
