How to Get Over "Insert Name Here"

The first step in
attaining this goal is to
develop a crush, because
it's impossible to get over someone
you don't like;
do this by having a dream,
by having a case of sensory overload,
or by any other means necessary

The next step is to
befriend him,
because everyone know that
you need to be friends first

After this, you must
tell him how you feel, with
a note either
given to him by a friend
or stuffed into his locker,
because before you can quit something,
you have to admit it first

Now you must wait
diligently by the phone, for a
phone call from him you're
not even sure will come

Upon your return to school
you must IGNORE him,
no matter how much
you want to talk to him,
to put everything you wrote
into spoken words,
because there's a chance
you may lost your dignity
in the process

While ignoring him,
you should now have a random bout
of spontaneity, which causes you
to tell him you like him again,
but this time you need to
use the Internet

Now that he probably thinks
you're a stalker, you must
repeat step six again,
avoiding him for an
undisclosed amount of time

All the while you need to write poems,
exactly like this one, because
it's the only way to express
how you feel

After awhile, you need to
tell yourself that
you're done waiting, that
you're going to move on

The last step in
getting over "Insert Name Here" is to
come to the realization that
everything you have done
was in vain, that you
never stood a chance
in the first place

Written over the course of a few weeks, finished 6/8/07. There were supposed to be brackets around "Insert Name Here," but it wouldn't work...

And so another round of poetry comes to a close. I was originally going to put his actual name in, but my friends thought that this way was better, so that anyone could relate to it.

It's funny... I look back on this recent poetry cycle, and compare it to the Miche Debacle. I wrote a lot more than the three or so poems I posted here this time, but most of them were unfinished, some even untitled. I think that means that this was never a really big thing (even though at the time it seemed like it), so that just makes it easier to move on.
