Sticks & Stones – 01
July 1
I went to this new art shop, trying to see if I can get some really good supplies. All I got was this very nice looking pen with orange ink, and the book I’m writing in right now. I want to throw it away, it smells funny… But I got this book for free.
July 2
Father is trying to get my brothers and me to work on decorating for the fourth of July. Our family is coming. So far, nobody’s helping.
July 3
One day left and the family is going to be here… for five days. I think I’m supposed to be happy.
Father’s burned himself 15 times before he figured out how to cook on the grill.
He then burned himself 20 more times trying to cook chicken.
July 4
It’s a good thing I have a lock in my room. Nobody’s coming in there. I locked my door, snuck out to get something to eat. So far, nobody found me. I think I must have looked like an idiot when I came out into the backyard. I didn’t even know that Father’s family was that big! David, my oldest brother, came to me and said that he told the others that I was sick. He sent me back up and to me to hide out in the room; he will bring me something to eat.
Such a nice brother.
Later on, David came with a whole lot of sandwiches and chips and sodas. He asked if he can hide out here for a while. I let him; he did save me from talking to the legions of evil cousins and aunts that we have.
We spent most of the time watching movies and eating chips. I’m gonna miss my brother when he goes off to college.
Father came pounding on my door, forcing us to come out for ‘family time’.
We had to sit on the floor while my five older cousins and two aunts sat on the couches. My uncles and Father was in the kitchen, getting dip for the chips on the table. My aunt Linda kept on asking about Mother…
“You know how she looked like?”
“Why did she leave?”
David, Lance, Clark, Bruce, and I stared blankly at them. We may be her children, but we know nothing about them.
Father must of heard dear old Linda, he came popping out of nowhere.
“Let’s play monopoly!”
Yeah, great save, Father.
I ended up leaving the game and I went inside my room before anybody could stop me. Locked the door and tried to fall asleep.
Well, I couldn’t… so I stayed up watching movies and writing in you. I don’t know what’s wrong with me these days…
July 5
I woke up to the sound of David screaming at Linda.
“Tell your damn kid to stay out of my room!”
“Don’t use that kind of language!”
I peeked out the door to look at my brother. His room is right next to mine. He was in those blue pj’s again. The one with the little cows on the pants and the picture of a moon on the t-shirt. I hate that thing…
You could seriously tell that he just woke up, his hair was sticking out in all places and he had bags under his eyes. I was glaring at my aunt, and she was in that really bright orange muumuu.
She’s giving my favourite colour a bad image!
David was glaring at Linda, which is an amazing feat at this time of day. That damn thing is blinding, I swear. I just shook my head and went back to bed.
Too damn early to be thinking about other people.
Later
I ate in my room.
I watched TV in my room.
I hid my cat in my room.
And since my room is one of the few rooms with a lock, David and Lance hid in my room as well.
So here we are, me writing, my two older brothers watching Breakfast Club (the best movie on earth) while eating chips. Every few minutes one of us would go out and get something to eat or something. Nobody has confronted us yet.
We’re not avoiding anybody, we swear!
Well, that’s what we believe.
