He made his way through the woods, following his prey's scent. He smelled blood somewhere up ahead getting stronger by the second. He was famished, his body practically screamed out the need to be fed. He walked under a full moon, and starless sky although out in the woods, away from the nearest town , the stars should be able to be seen without no problem. Anyway it wasn't like it mattered, he cared not about nature and his surroundings. The only thing that occupied his mind was the need to find the owner of such rich, thick blood. He could sense that whoever was up ahead was definitely quite a catch. He would be able to satisfy his needs with just this one.

He continued to walk, slowly taking his time although everything else told him otherwise. There was no need to rush things. The mortal was not going anywhere, he would see to that. Besides, if he was to run, try to escape, things would not go his way. After all, they were alone somewhere off in the woods away from anyone who could come to aid or hear his cries for help. He moved slow and gracefully avoiding the trees that stood tall above him as he caught a glimpse of his prey. He could tell it was a girl, even from the distance. He smiled to himself. He made his way, carefully, silently as to not frighten her away. Another time, he would have loved to have done so in order to have some fun before he ended it, but not tonight. He was much to weak from not having been fed, yes a bit strange seeing as how this did not occur often, well at least not to him, but it was not unusual, as this tend to happen often among his kind.

Lost in his thoughts , he had made his way to her almost in record time. He was now but a couple of steps from her lurking behind a tall tree, gazing at her back. He stepped forward and drew back. She spun around as soon she heard a twig snap. For a minute she stood that way and for that same minute he too, stood motionless, completely speechless. He had not expected his prey to be of such dare he say, angelic features. She was positively beautiful. She had straight, blond hair that was put up in a ponytail and thanks to the light cast by the moon and his amazing eyesight, for they vampires possessed incredible eyesight that allowed them to move freely through the dark, he could see that she had moonlight eyes almost covered by the bangs that fell on her face. She looked terrified as she looked around trying to locate the source from which the noise had come from. Her small but her nicely curved body was shaking. She was wearing a white blouse under a brown, suede jacket, and dark blue jeans and boots. She was stunning! He could do nothing more than to look and admire what he saw. He was a vampire but that didn't stop him from being attracted to her, after all he was a man. No wait, what? Attracted...to her? He was seriously going insane. How could he be attracted to her, a mortal? No... he wasn't, the girl was gorgeous, he'd give her that, but nothing else. She was his prey and that was all.

With all the distraction that was going on in his head, he had forgotten he was still standing behind the tree waiting for the opportune moment to leash out to his prey. The girl had already started to make her way once again to wherever it was she was headed to. He followed her careful at trying not to make any more noise. He planned on leashing out to her, get what he was here to get and then stake her so that she would not become one of them. That was how it worked. Vampires would feed on humans and once done with them, they were to stake them moments later as it began to take effect and become ashes before they turned to a vampire themselves. It did not take long to do so. They would immediately start to feel the effects on them once bitten and would have an hour or so to completely turn to vampires, however in mere minutes they could be staked and they would turn to ashes as if the transformation had already taken place. Yes, it was all somewhat confusing but once you did it a couple of times, you would were able to fully carry out the act alone.

She sure was taking her sweet time getting to wherever she was going to. She was going deeper and deeper into the woods and that was exactly what he needed. He needed her out of sight and out of range for anyone to not hear her so he would be in less risk of being heard of by any angel. Yes, those too existed. Damn them! You see vampires and angels alike had carried out a war that had lasted centuries and it was obvious that they could not carry on in peace with the two species living among the humans in this land. The angels of course would try to protect the humans from them the vampires, and prevent them from being disposed off or having let join us. Those creatures were tricky. They appeared exactly as humans except that when needed, they would pull out their wings and magic, yes they did possess magic and try to use them against us. Of course, us vampires were not completely useless. We too, had our own weapons. We had far more strength than humans and angels alike and were lead by the great Amaranth, meaning immortal, unfading, and we could kill of the angels as well, the same way we fed on humans, by bitting them. And unless we staked them, they too would convert, but not to vampires, but to dark angels that would then belong to us. This however, happened not so often as how they were creatures of great intelligence and would use their magic to prevent us from getting as close. They could heal, make some form of invisible shield that would protect humans and themselves that would be of damaging pain to us. They could do only so much however as could we, but the tension could not be denied. Very little humans knew of this and would try to protect the others by not spreading the word but taking extreme caution such as not letting them out at night by themselves, as if that would work. No matter, the war had been going for centuries and until one species would win the fight they would continue this way.

The girl took slow, cautious steps, he did not know whether it was as to not trip or afraid of the darkness that surrounded her. He too followed suit. He wondered how long he had been out there hunting his prey. A couple of hours were left till dawn and he had to hurry. He was much too young to die, he laughed at this...big mistake. The girl obviously not deaf heard the laughter and giving it no thought began to run. Either she was completely terrified and wanted to get out of there as soon as possible giving no thought to where she was heading, or she was completely stupid, or both. Either way it didn't matter, he ran after her, avoiding the trees as he rushed from side to side. She looked back and saw him rushing to her and screamed. Damn girl! She continued to run faster and faster looking back every so often as she sobbed and cried. Needless to say this was not his night. He was much to weak and thus the reason to why he struggled to catch up to her. He knew it would not be long till one of them came, the angels, and needed to get to her. He decided to take his chance and transform. Yes he had left that out. They could transform to bats and that's exactly what he had done. He flew up above never losing sight of her.

She looked back and saw no one behind her. She stopped to catch her breath and looked around. Whoever was chasing her had definitely disappeared. He was nowhere to be seen. She sighed. She knew it had been one of them, a vampire. She would not let anyone know but she knew they existed although everyone else would try to convince her otherwise. She had once seen one, late at night while her friend and her had sneaked off to the woods, the very same ones she found herself in.

They had come to meet some guys here in the abandoned lodge near the river. No one would dare go out at night let alone the woods leaving the lodge the perfect place for a gathering. They had tried to make their way that night hours before dawn when she spotted him. She seen him in the dim moonlight and there was no mistaking what she had seen. He had not been very far so she could perfectly see, pale skin and black, shoulder length, black hair. That had not been all. As he walked through the woods she saw him stop and looked up with his mouth open as he poured some form of liquid into it with his right palm, revealing fangs...FANGS! Fortunately he had not spotted them and her friends had seen him too and we went back inside, deciding it'd be safer to remain there at least for little while. They had seen him and they denied it. They thought that maybe it was the lack of sleep and that maybe it was someone from the town who had come off to do his own “business.” She was completely spooked but decided not to push the matter. After what seemed to have been two hours or so, they made their way back into town. She had never again mentioned that incident but now after tonight, she was convinced that they did exist.

She was heading back to that same lodge tonight to get a locket that had belonged to her brother but after his passing, had been given to her. She had loved him so much and she deeply missed him seeing as how he was the only family she had had left. Her parents had passed away when she was just a child due to some illness. She had been left in the care of her friend Emma's parents along with her brother, James. When he died of an illness as well, she was left to herself. Not that Emma's parent's treated her bad, no. Mr. and Mrs. Becker were nice, decent people that would look out for her and were comprehensive but it was just not the same. She missed her parents although she vaguely remembered them now and she missed James. She let out a loud sigh as memories were brought back. She heard a noise and was brought back to reality. She froze in place and closed her eyes dreading what she would find. The noise had come from behind her, very close to her. She knew it was him. She knew he was back to get the job done. She whimpered as she heard twigs snapping as he came closer. She was crying silently now, unable to move, knowing this was the end. She heard him come to a stop just behind her. Fully aware of her end, she turned around to face it.

He had transformed back into himself again and landed as silently a possible a few steps behind her. She was looking back to where she had been running from, presumably looking to see where he had run off to. However as he noticed her just standing there, looking out straight ahead, he knew she wasn't in the moment right then. She was thinking about something, of what, he would not know. He could tell however, that whatever it was, she was deeply saddened about it. He didn't know how or why but he just knew, somehow he could tell. After observing her in silence for a few minutes he heard her sigh. He knew it was now or never since it was almost morning and he would have to return to his lair soon. He stepped closer now not caring whether he made any noise or not. He had delayed it too long now. This had been the first time that something like this had happened. It was obvious that this girl had some kind of effect on him but that would not stop him from preying on her. He saw her stiffened and he knew that she had taken noticed of him. He was surprised however, to see her just stand there without even so much as trying to run off again. He made his way to her faster now until he finally stopped behind her. It was then she turned around to fully face him and he moved in to attack.
