Astrology In Simplest Form

I’m out here on the other side,

The next world over,

And I’ll let you know:

I will never die.

But some things are inevitable,

Like the way the night will fall

After the sun does

And the stars do in war.

It’s always dark on someone’s hemisphere…

I guess our turn is

Now.

So I wait

And I search

In deserted fields at midnight

For a piece of hope that may or may not mean a goddamn thing.

But there are so many stars,

Too many stars to cast shadows.

And as I look west,

To the city and its lights,

The buildings all seem tilted

So slightly

Like leaning towers of mud.

I wonder if I have imagined it.

Enlightenment!

I suddenly feel dizzy,

So I lay in the grass before

The buildings turn upside down

Down

Down

Down in the grass

That’s itching my back

(Irritatingly soft).

The world seems so much bigger than you.

Don’t take offense, though,

It’s got nothing to do with you.

It never has.

It’s more about me

(You were my favorite, and in many ways,

Such as memories,

You still are).

There’s a star that’s right

On the edge

Of my peripheral vision

And it reminds me of you:

Small, looking just like the others,

But bright.

If I turn

My lead-heavy

Spinning-vision head,

I might be able to see it clearly.

But I won’t.

Not for me, and especially not for you.

Just don’t be afraid of me,

Don’t be afraid of me anymore.

The more I think that way,

The better I feel.

So I say to myself

In the grass

With the voice of a dying leaf,

“It’s not as bad as it seems…

Everything is going to be alright.”
