Chapter 5

“How did I let you convince me into this?” I questioned as I stalked around our dead forms that were lying on the ground before us. You know how weird it is to stare at your dead self?

“No idea,” Julian joked from about thirty feet away. “Come on,” he said more seriously as he started back toward the road.

I took one last glance at us, the dead ones, before starting after him.

“What are we doing?” I asked as we pushed through the dense bushes.

“Getting my car,” Julian replied.

When we got out of the bushes he halted abruptly. I looked up at him to find him staring at the spot where his car had been parked, the corners of his mouth twitching ever so slightly.

“Come on,” I ordered as I grabbed his arm and started down the road toward town.

“What?”

“We can just fly,” I explained, turning around to face him.

“But what about my car?” Julian asked causing me to role my eyes.

“There are only two people that can have it,” I explained. “What’s his face, or our friends, now come on,” I said, dragging him down the street. Suddenly he took to the air, causing me to lose my balance and fall flat on my face. I rolled over and glared up at him. Julian laughed and came down to help me up.

“Come on,” Julian mocked, jokingly as he took off down the street. I flapped my wings and started after him.

“How could that have happened,” Jean asked, tears running down her face.

“I don’t know,” William answered as he wrapped his arms around Jean, trying to keep himself from crying.

“It’s all Vivian’s fault,” Kyle accused sitting next to Carolina. “If she hadn’t driven her car off the road then Julian wouldn’t be dead.” William glared over Jean’s shoulder at Kyle.

“That might be true but, but at least he wanted to help save her,” William said, still glaring at Kyle.

“Just shut up,” Carolina sobbed, tears flooding down her face. He had her knees pulled up to her chest and was hugging them with a death grip. “They’re both dead, not just Julian, Vivian too. You saw them, I’m sure they knew what was coming.” All three of them stared at her. That was the longest this most of them had ever heard her say. “What? You saw them. They looked happy.”

“Which makes no sense,” Kyle murmured darkly.

“What was that?” William asked, turning his attention to Kyle.

“Nothing,” Kyle said, seeing the warning in William’s eyes. “We should go do something instead of just sitting here moping.” Everyone nodded and started to get up.

Julian and I flew down the empty streets trying to navigate our way to Jean’s house.

“This way,” I said flying around a corner before landing on Jean’s street. Julian landed next to me and we started to run swiftly toward Jean’s house.

As soon as we reached the house Julian ran over to the silver BMW parked in the driveway. He was practically hugging his car, completely ignoring our friends that were standing in shock on the front porch. I leaned against his car, staring at Jean and Carolina.

William said something to Jean before the two of them started toward us, followed by Carolina and Kyle.

Carolina ran past everyone else, straight to me and wrapped me in a big hug.

“You’re not dead!” she cried with excitement.

“Actually,” I said as Julian stood up next to me.

“What?” Carolina asked, her big eyes staring up at me, she was about 6 inches shorter then me.

“We kind of are…. Dead,” Julian said, watching me.
