Gallipoli

Authors note: This poem is dedicated to all the New Zealanders and Australians who fought and died at Gallipoli. We will never forget.

Softly now, for ghosts tread here,
on these sands stained crimson red.
Each grain a tear a mother cried,
each handful, another dead.

Gently now, for souls rest here,
amoungst the memory soaked slopes.
Each rise a wish for greater things,
dead dreams awashed in hope.

Remember now, our futures here,
infolded in this foreignity - yet,
each thought, each soul we must embrace
for lest that we forget.
