xxxChapter2xxx
I sighed, standing back to veiw the neon green flier I had just tacked up to the school bulliten board.
“Like reading? Want to share your love of it?
Then come on Thursday at 4:00
to the park with a copy of Not for the Fainted Heart
Girls only book circle!”
I sighed. “I can’t elieve I let you talk me into this, Mikieo.”
Mikieo slung her arm around my shoulders. “You decided to! I did NOT make you!”
“Yeah, but It was YOUR idea.” I slipped out from under her arm. “Besides, I doubt anyone’s going to come.”
“Sure they will!”
“Ooh, a book circle?” A girl walking by with a friend said, stopping at the bulliten board, right on cue. She had silky brown hair and a pretty red bow clip in it. “I’m going.” She turned to the friend she was walking with, who had bright red hair and green eyes. “You?”
The girl checked out the flier, then shrugged. “Sure, I guess.”
Mikieo looked over at me with an “I told you so” smile. I just scowled. “This wasn’t even my idea!” I snapped, storming off.
“Yeah, but you agreed to be the leader," she reminded me, running to catch up.
“Before I even had a chance to think!!!”
Mikieo just shrugged.
I remembered right then how much Moi loved books. Tears stung my eyes. Moi…
“Aika, you ok???” Mikieo asked, her voice laced with concern.
“I’m fine..”

By the time Thursday came about, I had sligtly warmed up to the idea of the book circle. At least it was all girls. Ever sine Moi left, I had wanted nothing to do with boys. Nothing.
The only annoying thing was how Mikieo loved calling me her “book buddy”. Mikieo was one of those people with a super bubbly personality. She had big blue eyes and silky black hair and a slightly crooked nose, and was the same height as me.
I arrived at 3:45 to make sure blankets were laid down and fruit was provided as a snack. If worse came to worse, Mikieo and I could eat it all. My mother had been trying new fat-free cooking recipies, so any opportunity for me to get real food was appreciated.
By 3:55 Mikieo had showed up. But at 4:00 nobody had showed up. At 4:05 it was just me and Mikieo. Still.
“I told you nobody would come.” I fumed at her.
“Look! People are coming!”
"Like I'm going to fall for that!"
Suddenly, all at once, 5 girls entered our circle.
“Hi!” One said. I remembered her as the girl with he brown hair who had passed us by in the hall. “My name is Nae.”
“Mine’s Kiro” Said her read-headed friend.
Five more girls entered the circle, all giving their names.
“Sarah”
“Yohi”
“Mirinda”
“Kye”
“Mishi”
“Onaki”
“Liou”
“Inid”
Aika smiled for the first time all day. This could actually be fun! “Ok, now did everyone bring their copy of Not for the Fainted Heart?” Aika walked around checking.
“Yes…yes….yes….yup…mhmm….flip the book over, I can’t tell!….ok yup…ummm yup!….yes….and yes! Good, now let’s start.” She sat down, completing the circle, and opened her book.
