Technical Difficulties

Prelude

It happened a while back.

Just as society was snuggling up quite nicely, the departments responsible for the further advancement of mankind decided to create the unimaginable new technology that would hypothetically make life more entertaining and easy. It was the dream that could never have been fulfilled.

As life had passed on, the entertainment field seemed to have lost its touch. Engulfed in debt and poverty, entertainment became the lesser trade of economics. Thus, technology took over.

With the creation of personal PCs that took the shape of humans that were capable of movement, understanding the human languages and learning, these walking robots were closely considered as humans themselves.

The technologists had created an all-new century filled with brilliant advancements. The night skies were filled with rows of lights where transportation automobiles could fly, and the progressions of space transportations had gone so far as to settlements on the moon and Mars, as well as two of the moons of Jupiter.

Needless to say, evolution certainly made life a lot easier, and technology was at its height. People were uncontrollably indulging themselves into further technical grants. Houses were held capable of automatically locking, multiple voice systems and performing various identity verifications.

However, these advancements all came with a cost.

Another group of reformers soon arose, and they were called Raiders. Against the massive use and overspending of government finances on needless sources of technology and entertainment, they soon raided against many of the government officials to show their protest.

A war arose, known as the Scarred Grail War, where all continents rose to the challenge.

Although the war concluded with the Raiders suffering a hard loss of nearly half the population of the world, it was decided that technology, and it’s further preposterous advancements be ceased immediately in the attempt to prevent any other similar incidents of the sort.

After the signing of a formal treaty between the Raiders and the Centrists, government officials and those who supported the spurring technological advancements, it was thus decided that technology and its functions be properly instructed and guided. In addition, the outer-world settlements were allowed residential rights at the cost of a higher limit of technical sources than Earth. This way, the risk of unrestrained tyranny by technologists can be decreased.

Many of the advanced technology themselves, however, were kept. While others were obliterated and dismissed upon orders (with repayment), many were kept simply because it had become such a large contribution to daily life.

One of these inventions was the Element.

So far, this was an unparalleled and phenomenal creation. Almost every town had one.

Able to alter the mind and recreate every physical feature of the human body that it is occupied with, this massive economic hit had the entire entertainment board flushed, and money was coming in for them, fast.

After entering a chamber of access with the verification card, the player would recline into the metal seat and be engaged into the virtual dimension technologists referred to as Element.

With this invention, as well as the enormously high-tech satellites that came with it, players from worldwide could link up to the net and take part in the massive online role-play game.

Not only did children and adolescents indulge themselves in the party, but adults and elders did as well. Unable to resist the thoughts of an alternate dimension, participants rushed in for the catch of the century.

Unsurprisingly, Element soon became the ultimate experience.

However, many of the players who felt the need to eagerly escape from the river of reality became so preoccupied with the virtual dimension that some lost their mentality in the midst of playing. Many even lost their lives.

When news of this reached the government, it was decided that an age and time limit be considered. On top of that, Element prices were raised to a fashionable amount in order to prevent further injuries. Many of the Element centers in towns were also demolished, and the gaming goods were limited.

Nevertheless, Element still existed, and the game soon began to take the world into a deep, dark abyss.
