Chapter 01: GOOMiE!
I had never really noticed the little orange tea shop until now, as I lay on the ground with a bent up bicycle and a scraped knee. I guess I must have made a lot of noise when I ran into the ‘now hiring’ sign on the front door, because a petite girl with a large red bow placed in her short, black hair walked out of the tea shop with a stern look on her tiny face.
I looked up at her and gave her a sheepish smile, but it only seemed to anger her because her blue eyes flashed, dangerously.
“Excuse me, do you need something?” she asked as she folded her arms against her chest. I shook my head.
“No, I just fell of my bike when I wasn’t looking, I’m sorry.” I said. I tried to stand, but I felt a sharp pain in my knee and I fell back onto the hard sidewalk. The girl’s face softened.
“Okay, okay, hold on. I’ll help you up.” She said. “My name is Roh Roh.”
“Delight” I replied as she grabbed my hand and pulled me up. She rested my arm on her shoulder and dragged me into the tea shop.
I forgot all about the pain in my knee when I saw my surroundings. The walls were painted bright orange and purple, and there were plants on the walls and hanging from the ceiling and on pots on little tables. There was upbeat music playing from loudspeakers and bowls and bowls of fruit behind the counter of the shop, where a boy with black hair and bunny ears was mixing a drink.
“Pepper!” Roh Roh screamed over the loud music. The boy’s head shot up and his pale green eyes met Roh Roh’s vibrant blue ones. “I found this girl outside. She’s hurt. You wanna help her out?”
“Sure, just give me a second, I’m mixing this awesome new-“
“She’s bleeding on the new floor.”
“Okay, okay! God, Roh Roh.” He said, walking over to us and taking me away from Roh Roh. He walked me behind the counter and pulled out a first aid box. He took out some medicine and a band aid and rapped up my knee. His bunny ears brushed against my cheek a couple of times and I couldn’t help but chuckle. He raised his head and gave me a peculiar look. “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing!” I said, hastily. I didn’t want to offend him. “Your ears were just tickling me.”
“Oh!” he said, smiling, “sorry about that. You’re probably wondering about them.” I watched as he unhooked them from his hair and clipped them into my red hair. “They’re just fake. Ya know, to entertain the costumers.”
I smiled and shook my head, making the ears wiggle. “Your name is Pepper?” I asked him.
“Yup! And your name is?”
“Delight.” I said, giving him back his ears. “Thanks for giving me the band aid.”
“No prob. Do you fall off your bike a lot?” he said, helping me up. My cheeks turned pink.
“N-no! I just wasn’t watching where I was going this morning!”
Pepper laughed and poked my tummy. “Sure, sure. Anyways, do you think you could ride home with that knee? It doesn’t look broken, but it must hurt.”
“I’m fine!” I said, although I couldn’t ignore the stinging.
“Pepper!” Roh Roh’s shrill voice yelled across the shop. “I’m opening right now, okay?”
“Yeah, yeah.” Pepper said, rolling his eyes. “She doesn’t have an inside voice.”
I chuckled. “I’ve never been to this tea shop before.” Pepper raised an eyebrow.
“Really? Well, that’s understandable since we’re pretty new.”
“Do you and Roh Roh own it?” I asked.
“Oh, God no.” he said, nodding his head at a bright blue door in the corner of the shop. “Madame Boom Boom owns it. She hasn’t come in yet, though.”
I nodded my head as a group of girls walked in to the shop. I watched as Roh Roh took their orders. “well, I should go now. “
“Hm? Oh, yeah, okay.” Pepper said, “Just be sure to stop by again and try something, okay?”
“Okay!” I said and headed for the door, after saying bye to Roh Roh. On my way out, I walked head first into someone’s chest.
I looked up and before I could apologize I was mesmerized by the most vivid green eyes I had even seen in my life. The tall boy had sand colored skin and spiky, midnight blue hair. He had pierced ears and a chain hung from his pants. I mumbled an apology and ran out the door before he could even reply. I peered through the front window as the boy walked behind the counter and said a few words to Pepper. I also watched as he opened the bright blue door and walked inside.
Before I turned to leave, I saw that Pepper had caught my eye and he gave me a little wink before going back to the drinks. I turned pink again and picked up my bicycle. I looked up to see the name of the tea shop in bright green letters.
“GOOMiE Tea House.” I said to myself, and for some reason, I had a feeling I would be back.
