I want to improve and hone my skills,

But having you as a rival would serve no purpose.

We are too damn different in writing styles & goals,

And to be rivals, we have to understand the other.

A rival isn’t what I want, at least

Not the kind of rival you seem to need.

I want a rival who can take the skills I have

And sharpen them while still teaching me other things.

Your writing is too complicated, too focused for a certain mindset

So lost in the ‘art’, you’ve forgotten about the people.

I might inspire you, but you don’t inspire me.

If anything, it kind of bores me.

Real rivals should be people that you trust.

Ones you can go to with problems and get advice.

The purpose of a rival is to make you think,

Of things that you’ve either overlooked, or just didn’t see.

Rivals should inspire each other,

Pushing because they believe in the other’s growing talent.

A rival should be willing to lend a hand,

And not forget to thank the other.
