Too Fat
By Victoria Barlow
She thinks she’s fat.
Everybody in the school knows she’s skinny.
She’s only one hundred and fifteen pounds.
Her friends try to tell her she’s thin.
She won’t listen.
She starts going on a diet.
She skips breakfast.
At lunch she says she ate a big breakfast and that she’s not hungry.
At supper she says she ate a bug lunch.
Nobody suspects anything until she starts loosing weight.
She claims nothing’s wrong.
She claims she working out.
Her parents get worried and try to make her eat.
She eats a little then throws it back up later.
Then she does two hundred sit-ups to makeup for it.
Her boyfriend says she’s too thin.
Everybody can see her bones.
Her tightest pair of jeans are too loose.
She’s ninety pounds now.
She still thinks she’s fat.
Her parents take her to the doctor.
The doctor says she‘s anorexic.
Her parents take her to the hospital.
She knows something’s wrong.
She knows it has to do with her not eating a thing.
She doesn’t want to be this way.
She wants things to go back to normal.
She tried to eat some food.
It makes her sick.
She waited too long.

A/N: I have no personal experience with anorexia nervosa, nor have I known anyone who was anorexic. I have only read accounts from people who did suffer from this disease.
