Innocence is something that we all lose at some point in our life it is stripped away from us by those close to us or by the world around us. There is hope,we can gain some of that lost innocence back.

Innocence; © K Julian 2007
A girl wandered from her home
Her name lost to all, even to herself
With no ties she began to roam
Searching for the ones she lost
First she found a disillusioned teen
Eyes dulled by years of pain,
Surrounded by destruction, his loneliness keen
To him, she posed her question:
"Do you know who I am?" she asked
"Something lost to me," he replied
He closed his eyes, his anguish masked
"It doesn't matter anymore."
She looked at him, her eyes bright
"Everything matters." Her voice was full of cheer
"You just have to wait for the light."
Young arms wrapped around him
His eyes widened and his head snapped up
But the girl was nowhere to be seen
In her place were several flowers in a cup,
Tickled by a gentle breeze
A smile touched his lips
His surroundings lightened
"Thank you," he murmured
"Innocence."
