Space
She looked through her mirror, into the vast beyond that threatened to engulf her planet, her life, her everything. How can something so beautiful, be so deadly? She wondered, staring at the speckled mass that encompassed everything.
White stars littered her sky on most nights, but not tonight. The stars blinked in and out, maddeningly blue, red, and varying yellow. There was danger in the flickering as they approached her dismal world, with the greys encompassing the vibrant blues. She wondered, staring at her fate, if there would have been some one to faithfully love her, unlike the man she was previously with. She ran her pale nails against the glass, dimly seeing her reflection in the panes, solitary against the darkness beyond the fragile, weak barrier she knew would soon fall to the sweeping vacuums of super novas, stars, star dust and space residue.
Her reflection looked sad as she glared into the window, the pale of her skin harsh against the dark of her hair. A star exploded nearby, and she averted her gaze, her reflection diminished against the bright blue glare. The after whip of winds tore at the buildings around her, howled so loudly her eardrums hummed afterwards. She took note at the people screaming in the streets, fleeing with their children and pets, lovers and enemies, trying to escape the all consuming hatred of the void engulfing them. She let her nails scrape against the glass, enjoying the horrid screeching noise they made. Are there any accepting their fate as I? She mused, glancing at the darkened windows across the street. Another star exploded, closer to her, it was a vibrant yellow, making her shield her eyes from the harsh brightness that was expelled, the wind ripped through her house, taking parts of the wall, the roof, and she felt the floor start to give.
She smiled, resuming her pointless thoughts, absently stroking a stuffed cat her father had given her. I wonder where he is. She stroked faster. There were screams echoing among the streets as bodies were blasted apart, skin being rendered from the after winds, now well past bone breaking point, the space was so imminent. Lovers stared at loved ones as they lay, dead or dying, in pools of blood. Once again, a star exploded, red this time, so close she could feel the heat before it hit her house, incinerating her body and all earthly possessions.
Just before the flames of the bitter star hit her, she noted her reflection was crying, hued in a pinkish red. How she wished she could save herself from the pain she felt. All too soon the raging inferno was upon her, the heat like a blanket in the summer.
Space was always known to be the final frontier, there just was no one known who could tame it.
