Hello, to one and all! This is the last and final chapter for this story. I do hope you all liked it and I hope this ending satisfies you. ENJOY!!

Chapter 3--Of False Assumptions and Saviors

Carly met Griffin at the horse stable. They picked their horses to go riding. Griffin got a Palomino named Candy. Carly rode her once last time she was at camp. Carly got to ride her favorite horse. A dark brown Thoroughbred-Arabian mix named Rachel. She lipped Carly’s hair in a remembrance greeting.

The two headed out riding into the mountain’s forest. The beauty blew Carly away. She’s always loved forests, but never actually got the chance to be in one. It was even better that she was riding on horseback. Griffin was riding pretty close to her, making her a tad uncomfortable but she pushed it away.

Griffin and Carly got to a clearing in the forest where they stopped to give Candy and Rachel a break. Carly walked around a little bit, but she could feel Griffin’s eyes never leaving her. “What?” she asked nervously.

“Nothing,” he said in a low voice. “You just look really pretty.”

Carly didn’t like the way he was looking at her. “Thank you. Um…could you please stop looking at me like that? It’s making me nervous.”

“Oh. sorry. I didn’t realize I was.”

This wasn’t the Griffin Carly knew. She wasn’t sure she liked it. Ugh, she really hoped this wouldn’t turn into something bad. When Griffin still hadn’t stopped staring at her she walked a little more away from him to look at the forest’s beauty. Griffin just followed her. He stood dangerously close to her. She tried to sidestep but he slithered an arm around her waist to keep her from doing so.

“Griffin, please let me go,” she demanded nervously.

“Relax, Carly,” he drawled.

Carly tried, but she couldn’t. This was too nerve-wracking. She wasn’t used to someone touching her like this. She wasn’t liking it too much either. She felt a hand go up the hem of her shirt. She gasped and stepped away quickly. “I want to go back now.” She began her way towards her horse but Griffin stepped in front of her.

“Hey. Take it easy.”

Carly glared. “We were supposed to take it slow, remember? This doesn’t seem very slow to me.”

Griffin chuckled. “You’ve never had a boyfriend have you? This is slow.” He started walking towards her making her back up against the tree.

“Move, Griffin.”

Griffin put his arms on either side of her blocking her attempts to leave. “No. I told you to relax.”

“How can I relax with you invading me? What happened to the sweet and nice guy that I was supposed to be on a ‘date’ with?”

“He’s still there. But he’s getting pissed because someone won’t do what he wants.”

Carly looked at him disgusted. “That’s what you wanted me for? You’re pathetic. We’re done here.” She tried to move but Griffin gripped her shoulders and pressed her against the tree. “Let me go!”

“Oh, no you don’t. Not until I get what I wanted.” He inched closer to her.

Carly shut her eyes and braced herself for the worst when she felt a gust of wind and Griffin’s grip leave her. She opened her eyes to see Griffin on the ground and a very, very, very angry Shawn looming over him.

“Don’t…ever…touch her…again,” he said his voice dangerously low.

Griffin narrowed his eyes. “Stay out of this, Shawn.”

“Not until you leave her alone.”

Griffin lunged at him but Shawn sent him flying with a quick punch in the face. Griffin clutched his bleeding nose. He sent a glare at Shawn before finally running away.

Carly just stood there gawking at Shawn. Had he really done that? Wait…how did he know anyway?

“Are you OK?” Shawn asked turning towards Carly.

“Were you spying on me?” Carly asked still gawking.

Shawn staggered back obviously surprised at the question. He rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Uh…yeah…kinda.”

Carly blinked at Shawn once. Twice. Three times. Then she threw herself onto him into a tight embrace causing him to fall backwards. “You are the most amazing person I’ve ever met in my entire life!”

Shawn just stared at the girl on top of him. “Um…OK?” He felt his cheeks flush a little at their current position.

Carly finally took notice too then scrambled off of him, blushing herself. But she was still beaming at him. But then she narrowed her eyes and smirked dangerously. “Why were you spying on me?”

Shawn started sputtering. “Uh…cause…well…I didn’t…trust him.”

Carly giggled at his appearance. But she decided to take the answer anyway. “Well, I’m glad you did. I didn’t think he’d try to do something like that. And…I’m sorry.”

Shawn smiled. “Hey, it’s OK.” Then he grew serious. “Did he hurt you?”

“No. Not physically anyway. Just emotionally.” Her face fell a little. But then she beamed again. “At least you were there to save me.”

Shawn flushed a little and laughed nervously.

Carly embraced him again. She giggled girlishly and said in a fake voice, “You’re my hero!”

He gave her a cocky smirk. “Yeah, I know.”

Carly stepped back her eyes narrowing, but a smile still on her face. “Do you have to ruin the moment?” Carly became serious again. “Why did you do that to him?”

Shawn looked at the ground. “I…” He took a deep breath. “I just…didn’t like the way he was treating you. I couldn’t let him hurt you like that.” His face was serious and his voice was protective. It shocked Carly, he could tell.

Carly’s eyes welled up. “You…you really care that much?”

“Yes, I do.”

Carly was so surprised all she could do was give a soft smile. Shawn gave one back. Then he said, “Uh, do you want to head back?”

Carly laughed and shook her head. “No way. The later I run into Griffin the better. Plus, we’re in a forest with two horses and three hours left until rec-time is over. We should at least have some fun.”

Shawn chuckled softly. He should have known better. Carly was obsessed with nature—especially forests. He should have known that Carly would never leave without a really good reason.

Carly remounted Rachel and Shawn mounted the horse Griffin left behind. Carly began to laugh. Seeing Shawn on a horse in the middle of the forest was too ironic for her. She opened a pocket of her black cargo pants and took out her digital camera. “You have to let me take a picture,” she gushed.

“No.”

“Awww, come on!” Carly made her eyes bigger. “Pleeeeease?”

Shawn stared at her for a few seconds then groaned. Why couldn’t he say no to those big eyes anymore? “Fine.”

“YAY!” Carly took a couple of pictures giggling happily. He was so cute. She put her camera away, then the two headed off into the forest. At first they did it at a slow pace while talking about how their next school year might go. Later on they galloped through the forest in a playful race. Shawn won, but Carly didn’t mind. Especially when he did an adorable victory dance in the saddle. He was suck a dork sometimes, but he was her dork.

Carly looked around the scenery. She gasped. “Oh my gosh!” she squealed.

Shawn looked at her curiously.

Carly just gaped at the beautiful weeping willow tree in front of her. “OK, I don’t care what you say, Shawn, you have to get a few pictures of me in that tree.”

“Um…OK, but why?”

“Sentimental reasons.”

Carly dismounted her horse, as did Shawn. She gave him her camera. She climbed the tree and readied in position. Shawn had to zoom in to get a better shot. When he did, his breath hitched in his throat. Carly’s black cargo pants and dark green tank top made her blend in yet stand out with the scenery. Her long hair was cascading over her shoulders in an alluring way. The best part, however, was the atmosphere. It was cloudy, so the darker lighting and mossy leaves around her gave her an eerie beauty.

Shawn took a total of four pictures when it began to rain. (Luckily, Carly’s camera was waterproof.) Carly squealed at the rain and hurriedly climbed down like a five-year-old. She spread her arms wide, tilted her head back, and twirled, embracing the raindrops. Shawn could help but grin at how cute she looked.

After around three minutes of her fun, she took the camera from Shawn. “Last picture, I swear,” she laughed. She put an arm around him and he followed suit. They leaned in and Carly snapped the picture. She smiled up at Shawn. He smiled back.

“We should probably head back,” he stated.

Carly nodded.

They mounted their wet horses and rode back to the stable, the rain and thunder being the only noises between them.

“I don’t wanna get wet!” Jason moaned to Audrey.

“Oh, come on, you baby!” Audrey laughed tugging Jason’s arm.

Jason sighed. “Fine.”

Audrey squealed with delight. She pulled Jason out into the now pouring rain. Gah, she loved it when it rained. It was even cooler in the mountains since you were literally in the cloud making you even damper. And Jason finally loosened up and began to rave in the rain. Audrey laughed.

Suddenly, Jason stopped. He stared at Audrey with a dazed expression on his face.

“What?” Audrey asked a little unnerved by the sudden attention.

“You’re beautiful when you’re wet,” he simply stated.

Audrey blushed and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. “Thank you?”

Jason took a step closer to her. Then another. And another to where he was but a mere inch away from her.

“Jason?” Audrey asked a little nervously.

Jason gave her a soft smile. He closed his eyes and began to lean gently forward. He closed the gaps between their lips and kissed her in the downpour of rain. Audrey couldn’t help but let out a small giggle through her lips making Jason smirk into hers. He wrapped his arms around her waist and she wrapped hers around his neck. They noticed a bright flash through their closed eyes but figured it as lightning. They finally pulled apart for air breathing rapidly.

“Did you hear someone laughing?” Jason asked a goofy smile still plastered on his face.

Audrey sighed her elated smile never leaving her. “Not at all.” And she kissed him again.

As soon as Audrey opened the door to her room Carly pounced in front of her and screamed, “OMG THAT WAS THE CUTEST THING I EVER SAW!!”

“Huh?” was Audrey’s incredibly intelligent reply. Let us applaud her.

“Do I need to freakin show you my camera?!”

“Um…yes?”

“FINE!” Carly whipped out her camera, turned it on, and showed her a picture. It just happened to be a picture of when Jason kissed Audrey in the rain.

Audrey screamed happily causing Carly to jump back and trip over a suitcase. It made the two girls laugh hysterically.

“Tell me everything!” Carly gushed fully excited.

“Oh, it was nothing,” Audrey answered, her smile betraying her however. “We were just having fun, he told me I was beautiful, then he kissed me in the freakin rain!” Audrey twirled in delight.

“AH! I’m so happy for you!” Carly and Audrey hugged tightly while jumping up and down like giddy school girls.

“I have to see it again!” Audrey snatched her camera before Carly could do anything. Audrey stared at the picture then began scrolling through the rest. Audrey smirked and raised her eyebrow. “Well, well, well! What have we here? Shawn on a horse? You in a tree? You and Shawn in the forest while it’s raining? Is there something you want to tell me?”

Carly blushed about eight shades of pink. “Well…”

Carly proceeded to tell of when Griffin tried to ‘take advantage of her’.

“He did what?!” Audrey seethed. “That bastard…excuse the language.”

She then told her of Shawn spying on her and his amazingly chivalrous act of attacking Griffin.

Awwwwwww!” Audrey gushed. “That is the cutest thing ever! I knew he was jealous. I told you he cared! Oh that is just freaking adorable! I wish I saw that. Or better—had it on tape.”

Carly then finished about how her and Shawn spent the rest of the time together in the forest just having fun. And taking pictures.

“I knew it,” Audrey said smirking.

“Knew what?” Carly asked feeling as though she already knew.

“He liiiiikes you! He so totally does!”

“How?”

Audrey gaped at Carly. Was she seriously this blonde? “Uh…let’s see, Carly. He spied on you while you were supposed to be on your ‘date’. He, like, mauled Griffin for doing what he did to you. He actually told you he cared about you. He let you take pictures of him (which turned out amazing). And he spent the rest of the time with you when he could have come back. But no. He decided to stay with you.” Audrey beamed in satisfaction.

Carly thought it over. “Maybe.”

Audrey slapped her forehead in frustration. Ugh these two were so dense! But at least she got her kiss. Cue extremely huge smile.

It was the last day of camp. Everyone was sad, but happy at the same time. Shawn and Carly were arguing over something, but you could tell it was playful. That’s when Griffin walked up.

“What do you want?” Shawn growled narrowing his eyes dangerously.

“Chill, dude. I came here to talk to Carly.”

Carly crossed her arms and glared. “What?”

Griffin sighed. “Look, I’m really sorry about what I did. I shouldn’t have. It was wrong and stupid. I really did like you, I swear! I was just sorta frustrated because I made a bet with Cody and Adam that I could get my first kiss from you even though I just met you.”

“You made a bet?”

Griffin rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly. “Heh…I know that doesn’t sound much better.”

“No, it doesn’t.”

Griffin sighed. “I know. But I really am sorry. It was stupid and I shouldn’t have done it. If I could take it back I would. But I mean it when I say I did like you. So…do you forgive me?”

Carly searched for any signs of insincerity in his icy blue eyes. She couldn’t find any. She gave a small smile. “Sure.”

Griffin beamed ignoring Shawn’s second growl. “Thanks so much! We can still be friends right?”

Carly chuckled. “Of course.”

“Great! I’ll see you next year maybe. Bye!”

Carly waved. For an idiot…he wasn’t so bad.

“I still don’t like him,” Shawn said still glaring at the retreating boy.

Carly giggled. “It’s OK. You don’t have to.”

Carly sighed contentedly while staring out the window of the bus. This had definitely been the best camp trip she’s ever been on. She wouldn’t trade any part of it for the world.

She looked around the bus. Brandon was reading one of her books (called This Present Darkness by Frank Peretti), Audrey was sleeping on Jason’s torso, and Jason was sleeping to with Audrey fully in his arms. Shawn was sleeping as well next to her. She smiled. For the third time in those two weeks, she laid her head on his shoulder preparing to drift off.

He chuckled startling her. “You really like that spot, don’t ya?” he said smirking cockily.

Carly grinned cheekily. “Yes. As a matter of fact I do.” She put her head back in its proper place. “It’s my spot. No one else’s.”

Shawn chuckled again. “Fair enough.” He put his arm around her. She was his. You know, in the best friend kind of way. Heh…

Yep, we still need to get him to work on his denial.
