Tunnelvision

(Authors Note: This was written for a school assignment which I never finished. I went through and dug it up and decided to finish. Enjoy.)

Chapter One

He hates her. He loves her. He hates loving her. But, for some reason, he cannot live without her. Her only home is with him. Everyday she leaves is another day he cannot enjoy. But maybe, maybe if she walked in- just walked in- as Hajime sat there, innocently, playing with his bowl of cereal- we would see the reason for this conundrum.

Aya entered. She wore only a tight, long tee shirt and red argyle socks. She reached into a high cabinet, shamelessly, looking for a cereal box. It took a while before she looked over and saw Hajime gesturing with the box. She snatched it without even an expression.

“I don’t see how you can just sit there and eat cereal that your hair just- hangs over.”

“It’s not like I have lice. Besides I haven’t been eating it. I knew you’d come in here all loud and not even a good morning.,” he said, getting up from the table.

“Nothing special about this one. I see you every day.”

“Because you live in my goddamn house! I didn’t expect you to say good morning. I would’ve liked it though. You act like I do nothing for you.”

Aya nonchalantly lit her cigarette and puffed.

“Isn’t this the part where you storm out, all upset, trying to control yourself so you don’t do something stupid?”

He was silent, glaring at her as she smiled. She exhaled smoke. He went towards her and she stopped him gently with her foot, sitting on the washing machine.

“Well, before you go-”

She kissed him. He almost couldn’t stop. He pulled back with a wide smile.

“Goodbye.”

“You are so hateful,” Hajime replied, putting his head into her chest.

“And yet I give you such love every single day.”

“I have to keep the relationship interesting somehow,” he said, lifting up to kiss her.

“Baby- you really do have to go to work.”

“What’s the rush,” he muttered, chewing at her ear.

She burned him with her cigarette.

“Ow! What the fuck was that for?!”

She hopped down cheerfully.

“Go.”

He left with a violent door slam as she started on his soggy cheerios.
