Chapter 4:

The Mutilation

The door flew open, and from what I could see from beneath the blood-soaked bed, were two muddy, combat-boots stood in the doorway. Heavy, wheezing breath hissed all around as he slowly approached the bed. The combat-boots were not only stained with mud, there were thick, heavy blotches of crimson dotted all around them, the sight of this made me feel sick to my stomach. As much as I wanted to scream, I couldn’t, I couldn’t allow this madman to know where I was, if I did, I’d end up being the next victim.

He dropped himself onto the bed, and loose spring above me shot down into my back. I bit down on my bottom lip to avoid groaning in pain. From above me, I could hear him laughing maniacally, and occasionally there would be a ripping sound, as if skin was being torn from the bone. I closed my eyes and imagined that this wasn’t happening, it was just a dream, it had to be!

Ten minutes passed and I could still hear him mutilating my mother’s corpse as it lay upon the bed. A light then turned on inside my head, I gently reached down into my trouser pocket and fished out my mobile phone; and as quietly as I could, I dialled my mother’s number. Downstairs, I could hear the ring-tone beeping away. The madman raised himself off the bed and quickly exited the room. I seized the moment and slid out from beneath the bed and got to my feet, not even daring myself to look at the bed. Wasting no time, I crept out of the bedroom and into the bathroom, listening out for any signs that he was returning to finish his work.

A sudden vibration in my pocket made me jump out of my skin, followed by the loud ring-tone of my mobile phone. The heavy footsteps then thundered up the stairs once again, I was well and truly trapped.
