Trintans
Names:Trintans
Capitol:Trinta Sol
Home Planet:Trinta 4
Military Strength:Galactic Power
Military Purpose:Maintaining stability, order, and peace
Unity:Though rather competitive, bloodbaths in their history now carefully direct their motions for peace in an effort only slightly disconcerted by minor political jockeying
Species Type:Reptilian avian
Telepathy:Non-telepathic, though there is an empathy between married couples that baffles scientific measurements and is unofficially considered receptive
Sleep:Trintans are very alert beings, they have light sleep and therefore must sleep approximately once every twenty hours. They spend from eight to fourteen hours asleep at any given time. Certain forms of prayer-meditation somehow give the same rest as almost twice as much sleep, but can not substitute for sleep for prolonged periods.
General Strengths:Determination, physical stamina that continues to baffle science, extremely sensitive sensors,
General Weaknesses:Narrow-minded, sometimes their competitiveness gets in the way of their ‘broad view’, short-ranged sensors
Home World / Origins:
Trinta 4 is a beautiful, lush world that baffles science. Its terrain is dominated by gentle lowlands covered in heavy rain forests, interrupted by jagged mountains that show every indication of being thrust up by tectonic activity, despite that there has never been any crustal shifting in all of Trintan recorded history. A large number of relatively evenly-spaced continents and the impassibility of the mountain ranges forced Trintans into a divided beginning, with resource imbalances giving further division. Animal life on land is dominated by vicious predators, many flying. The seas teem with a wide array of mollusks and fish, a Trintan favorite being an octopus-like creature.
Physical Description:
Reptilian creatures, they are extremely rugged to most environments, the exception being a vulnerability to the cold that wasn’t defeated for centuries. Though they have strong wings capable of carrying nearly half plus their body weight, they lack extremely long endurance and generally only fly for a few kilometers at a time. In their native forests they are excellent climbers, fast and agile. On the coasts they discovered that they are powerful swimmers (necessary to fight the strong currents of their seas), and most live on a diet consisting primarily of sea food.
Their muscle tissue is extremely dense and useful for sprinting and rapid activities, though few have extremely long endurance and it takes a long time to heal. Their lungs and decentralized circulatory system are extremely efficient, maintaining a relatively high metabolism compared to other reptiles. Their digestive tract is also very strong, their diligence in washing their food arises from their inability to salivate, not from weak stomachs.
Very alert creatures, their senses of sight, sound, and smell is remarkably sharp. Unfortunately, they are also very light sleepers, like Terran felines, and spend much of their long lives in rest. Their skin, while strong and resistant to the outside environment, is also one of the least tactilely sensitive of any known race, and their sense of taste is also relatively dull. A powerful immune system makes then highly resistant to poisons and diseases, but what few they are vulnerable to are extremely deadly.
Communication:
Though there is no historical or archeological origin, Trintans began with a highly developed alpha-phonetic writing system with remarkably simple grammar, though their vast vocabulary dwarfs even ancient Terran tongues. Unlike what may be expected from their “simple” language, they are naturally skilled linguists, strengthened by strict cultural standards for host-guest relations that require them to learn others’ languages and not speak their own around foreigners.
Psychological/Intellectual Disposition:
Trintans bear many similarities to Terrans, their species varies widely. All are curious, mostly to a generous degree. They have a long-standing culture of honor, respect, and faith in God (officially, one hundred percent of the population believes in a single creator-ruler God). Competitive but not to the same intensity as Terrans, they have long memories and a tendency for hyper-focus that can make them dangerous if they decide they want something someone else has. Though they are capable of adapting extremely rapidly, many are also highly stubborn and defiant.
Though the majority are considered cautious, many are daredevils that take risky chances regularly, increasing their fame for “uber pilots”, even if in secret many of them die rapid deaths at the hands of high-speed accidents.
Territory:
Unlike most races, who prefer relatively clear, open systems, Trintans enjoy close environments. What is a bottleneck to some races is a waiting thoroughfare to Trintans. An acute sense of direction and space, and their origins in the largest asteroid field in the known universe make then extremely skilled pilots, and they generally prefer such “busy” environments over solar systems as open as Terra Sol.
Like most races, they began their foray into super-light technology with endurium, but quickly left it behind when they discovered how to process a unique compound called “Patraykiyan”. They jealously claim and develop all pockets of this rare resource, used in much of their power and warp drive technology, a resource which has driven the majority of their expansion for centuries. Despite their history, Trintans are actually loathe to war, their history was full of bloodshed and they prefer to convert new peoples instead of killing them.
History:
In the beginning of ??, the five major Trintan nations are embroiled in a ‘holy war’ over philosophical conflict closely paralleling the Terran Arian conflict (Terran 300 AD). ??5, shaky in the first place, threatens to politically fracture and finally collapses, being absorbed by the other four (year ??). A period of wary peace and stability begins, until the space race begins when foreign intelligence discovers that ??4 is attempting to build a chemically-propelled rocket (year ??). While the other 3 nations scramble to catch up??4 lands a 3-man expedition on the third moon. This provides them a massive image victory, though in secret a meteor shower damages the engines and navigation of the return vehicle, which burns up on re-entry (year ??).
The space race intensifies and the colonization begins of Trinta 4C, though the split excludes ??3, who are busy trying to send an expedition to Trinta 3 (year ??). Furious at being cut out, they begin a ground war (year ??). Despite their efforts, they lose the war and their territory is parceled out to the three winners (year ??). Without supplies from ??3, the expedition to Trinta 3 starves. Finally, the war dies down and ??4 sends an expedition to Trinta 3 to rescue the first expedition (??). When they are found dead, blame flies. With the major nations laying claim to every portion of Trinta Sol, they now aim the space race at the nearby system Nomenst (??).
Several ships are launched, and midway through the trip the two engage in space combat (??). ??4 loses contact with their ship and once arriving, the ??2 colony ship begins a colony on the hospitable third planet (??). ??1 launches a ship at Nomenst, using a primitive warp based on a secret stash of endurium found on a moon of one of Trinta’s jovians (??). ??2 and ??4 find out about ??1’s endurium supply and start war to wrest control of the monopoly (??). ??1’s ship is destroyed by the colony at Nomenst 3, but manages to send a signal (??).
??1 is defeated and the endurium is opened for use by all Trintans (??). The warp ship’s signal is received, fingers are pointed and tensions rise (??). ??6 splits off of ??4 and instigates war with ??2 (??). ??4 sends its own warp ship to Nomenst (??). ?? is defeated, but tensions increase with its parent nation (??). ?? tests a new super-light engine, hyperdrive. The ship is destroyed, ripping a temporary hole in the asteroid field in Trinta Sol (??). Trintans abandon hyperdrive, focusing on the more applicable warp. ?? begins purchasing ??’s land as various nations’ probes discover other hospitable systems (??). Both launch colony ships at separate systems (??).
?? grows faster than ??. ??’s prove discovers the ?? (??). Trintans make first contact with ?? (??), translating begins. ?? and Trintans claim resources, tensions increase. A deposit of Patraykiyan is discovered near an endurium deposit mostly claimed by ??. Both claim the region, tensions increase (??). Merchants start fighting over the endurium, but Trinta doesn’t strongly discourage theirs (??). ?? deploys military ships to protect their merchants and Trintans respond by claiming exclusive rights to the entire region, deploying fighters (??). ?? attacks, claiming territorial violation (??).
Trintans deploy fleets and declare war (??). Scientists working on the warp drive discover how to use Patraykiyan instead of endurium, sharply raising the stakes in the fight. A number of new technologies are deployed, and the Trintans finally conquer the ?? (??). The republic flounders in trying to decide what to do with ??.
Probes discover ?? (??). The republic invites ?? to join, and many do (??). ?? claim territorial violation as Trintan survey ships push into their space and attack (??), though Trintan superior pilots pull off victory despite being caught by surprise. ??’s government haughtily demands an apology and reparations from Trinta (??). The republic responds by laxing the rules of engagement. ?? fleets attack Trintans repeatedly, finally ?? senator proposes deploying the military in force to discourage repeated violence (??).
Attacks increase and the republic finally deploys large fleets, and the undeclared war begins (??). Trintans win and immediately offer membership and aid to ?? (??). ??, already a close ally of the republic, now fully joins (??). ?? resentment fades in the face of honest Trintan actions, they begin accepting aid and many join the Republic.
A survey fleet discovers a vein of endurium, and beyond that a vein of Patraykiyan at the same time as a Korelēan survey finds endurium, the survey groups making first contact (??). Both Trintans and Korelēans claim the region for its numerous resources and easy transit paths (??). Korelēa builds a military training ground disrutbingly close to the disputed zone, both sides complain (??). More shipping and harvesting disputes cause tensions to rise. Finally, some overzealous Korelēans begin raiding Trintan harvesters (??), the Republican senate declares war in reprisal (since Korelēan harvesters are immune to like reprisals).
Superior Korelēan technology catches the Trintans by surprise. A lucky Trintan raid discovers a Korelēan map, generals plan to aim straight for Korelēa to quickly end the war (??). Two battle fleets drop out of warp and begin the fight for Korelēa 6 (??). The battle is initially a success, until outside reinforcements arrive and fleets converge on Korelēa 5 faster than the Republic anticipated they could rally (??). The full weight of the Republic is brought to bear against Korelēa sol, seizing Korelēa 5. Momentum slows as Trintan fleets fight over Korelēa Field (the dense asteroid belt separating the inner and outer system) and Korelēan fleets continue to arrive to reinforce home defenders.
Trintan piloting ends up winning control of the field (??) and they break into the inner system at the same time as three Korelēan fleets drop out of warp in the inner system. The battle for Korelēa 3 begins (??), the bloodiest and largest battle in Trintan history, fiercer than anybody ever predicted. Fortunately, the full might of the Republic and their slightly greater than sporadic control of the outer system ends breaking the back of Korelēa (??). Trintan fleets move on Korelēa 2, but before more than diffuse skirmishes can start, Korelēa finally surrenders (??).
Bitter at the massive casualties taken in the war, Trintans don’t actively extend an invitation to the Republic, but surprisingly the Korelēans apply after seeing the Trintans’ responsible post-victory behavior (??). Years pass and technology slowly progresses, but little of significance happens until scout fleets discover a region of absolutely blank space, light and radiation from beyond indicating a new arm of the Milky Way Galaxy (??).
A large scout fleet is sent into The Void (??), encountering Ion Storms for the first time in Trintan history. A detachment disappears, (assimilated by the Tos-Loven??). The battered and tired scout fleet arrives at Klen’ta (specifically, the ?? system, discovering Patraykiyan), and are attacked by enraged Jingan who declares war (??). Due to the presence of Patraykiyan, instead of pulling out, the Republic responds by accepting the war and sending fleets across The Void. The Klen’ta Imperium is quickly discovered to be far too powerful for the Republic to face alone, and relatively soon their scouts discover the Halpar (??), who they convince to join in the war against the Imperium (??).
A small faction of Amfa (Lambda Amfoid), eager to hone their combat skills, join the anti-Kle’tak coalition (??). Mainstream Amfa ships arrive, assisting the Kle’tak and greatly complicating the conflict (??). A Trintan delegation negotiates peace with Amfa (??), but war continues against the Kle’tak. Despite the Imperium’s power, intelligence indicates most of their strength is being thrown against a different enemy. Finally, the Amfa order the Lambda Amfoid to withdraw and mediate a peace, ending the first Galactic War (??).
Rumor of a Trintan fleet attacking a Kle’tak outpost raises tension, but the Republic insists on an investigation, discovering strange organic traces (??). Before the Tos-Loven can be truly “found out”, the cyborg race obliterates a coalition base (??). The Amfa, Kle’tak, Halpar, and Trintans all gear up to fight the Tos-Loven in what comes to be called the second Galactic War (??).
Being avian in nature, despite the comparatively rugged land, a long time passed before they had a need for most technology. They developed fire, wooden weapons and eventually bows, but millennia passed before they developed the wheel, and heavier-than-air flying machines soon after.
