Chapter One-Mental Fit
“I hate group projects.” Catty said as she covered her ears to bock out as much of the yelling and screaming all around her as she could. Mr. Forman's classroom was bursting with noise as eight groups of four worked together on a biome project. “This is way to noisy for a ninth grade project. It was quieter in the seventh grade, and it's the same exact project!” Catty said to herself. I don't think I can handle much more.
“Catty.” Make all the noise stop. “Catty!” Noise began to flood Catty's mind as a voice calling her name grew louder with every yell. Random and unwelcome thoughts flooded her brain. She opened her eyes to find the whole world out of focus and blurry. She dug her nails into her ear hoping to stop the pain all of this was causing. Someone grabbed one of her hands and ripped it from her ear. Her best friend Meridith screamed her name on her ear. Catty's vision came back to, all the random thoughts left in the blink of an eye. “What happened?” she asked looking around the room filled with screaming kids.
“You went into another mental fit.” Meridith said loud enough for Catty to hear but low enough so no one else could. Catty stared at her for a second and then admitted that Meridith was right. She shrugged her shoulders.
“Fourth time this week.” Catty said softly. “Don't worry. It'll get better.” Meridith said trying to sound hopeful. Catty scoffed, “Yeah right. You've been saying that for about five months now.” “Can you at least and try and think positive?” Meridith asked growing slightly annoyed. “Well after about, oh what is it, about five months now? Yes, I do tend to loose a little hope.” Catty snapped. Anger lit up Meridith's face. She was ready to knock out Catty right here and now, but forced her anger to subside. By the time Catty got over the aftershock of the fit, Meridith had completely calmed herself down. The bell rang shattering Catty's ears, or what was left of them. Meridith stood up and gathered up her things. “Well, at least first hour is over with.”
Catty sighed, “Yeah, I guess so. Only six more hours to go, oh joy.” she said sarcastically. The two girls walked outside and Catty sat her stuff down. She dug down in her pockets and pulled out her fishnet gloves. She slid them on and saw Meridith giving her a weird look. “So, who's the guy?” Meridith asked, a grin coming across her face. A mild shock went across Catty's face. “What the heck are you talking about?”
Meridith crossed her arms, “Come off it. You only wear your fishnet gloves when you see a hot emo guy.” she said carefully watching Catty's face for a reaction to tip her off. “So who's the guy?” she pressed. Catty rolled her eyes and scoffed and began walking to her next class. “You are very funny Meridith, very funny.” But completely clueless.
