MY MASK

A new day is dawning

And now I rise

My mask firmly in place

To face the day

A smile on my face

That's what you'll see

Never knowing of course

That I'm dying inside

You don't need to know my sorrow

It won't do either of us any good

You can't stop the tears

So why bother trying?

Of course you don't see

I make sure you don't know

That the reason I laugh

Is to keep the tears at bay

The day has ended

The moon starts to rise

I lay down to sleep

With my mask still on

But I can't truly rest

My mask is firmly on

I can't remove it

You won't know me then

Why do you want

To remove my mask?

I'll just have to

Replace it with another

You can't see me

Stop asking when you can

She doesn't exist

I don't know her anymore

Fine! Here. Now it's off.

Are you happy with the real me?

Are you finally satisfied world?

Here I am

I'm cold and shivering

I've finally laid bare all

My mask is broken

Can you see me now?
