When I Need You

I would show you the world I hold behind brown eyes
but if I were to open that door, there's no closing it
when the heart rings out with the truth and I lie.

It's something I play when I'm alone.
The memory's stronger than the will and I feel
no need to hide when I'm in the comfort of the silver
and it's something I won't ever forget to do.

Who knew that I'd fall so hard and completely
I dance like there's no tomorrow; please don't join me.
It's here when I'm ready to break down without anyone knowing
I do need you and the light of day to comfort my fragile soul.
I need you, with the vodka and fresh falling rain that coats me-
I need to get lost in your smell,
without a single care left hanging on my shoulders.

You're the AM side of a radio.
Static and yet I hear so clearly and yet,
I don't know what you're trying to say.
I need to feel the air against my bare legs and the rain
that coats my sweaty skin to relieve me from you.
I need you, when I'm alone and the silver blade won't comfort me.
Another drag on the cigarette and I'm lying in bed
Because there's no one else around to see me like this
and I'm ready to take away the make-up and the fake tattoos
that litter my fractured skin for moments.

I need to breathe for a moment
before I fall away into the cloud of nothingness and return
to needing you.
