I Give You the Key

Flitting past flickers, imprisoned old me

Now from this side of the bars.

Locked away in dungeons none see.

Though her memory still etches scars.

Defiantly,

Staring her in the face,

clutching the prisoner's key

Remembering I once stood in her place

As she whispers guilt and all she could be.

More ambivalent than you see.

Thoughts sensitive to touch

It can't be me that holds this key;

But who can I trust with such?

I know she cannot stay

Singing talent and potential.

Others may join the fray,

Persuasion too influential.

She plagues intended honesty

she knows my life of mystery

Because she knows my history.

She used to be me.

Now she's feeling rejected,

fury unrespected,

the tempest still reflected

in me even now.

You fashion me new raiment

Throwing out the soiled.

Never proper payment

All words are only foiled.

The burning hate

You replace

with Your own heart.

Please take all the pieces

and give me back a peace

that fills my soul.

Mold this stubborn heart

That brings me not but grief.

Pick away the poison darts,

Revitalize belief.

I'm not gonna make a new mask.

I don't wanna sculpt a new face.

I will only ask of You, Lord,

"Are there blueprints I could trace?"

Now I can't look back

The past seeks it's revenge.

Masks, infectious lies attack

Knowing my anger will singe.

Present shadows cast future dark.

Who sees what tomorrow will bring?

I can only look forward, press to the mark,

And with His praises sing:

I give You the key,

I give You my heart

To You my loyal art

And all I am to be.
