Metamorphosis
Throughout my life I've been in pain. Emotional, physical, mental, etc...But I've never felt pain like this. It was unbearable. I wanted to die. I thought I would. I thought I did. And in a way I did. But then I was reborn. Into a true goddess.
Here's how:
My mother told me to gather eleven roses. I found them. Eleven crimson blood colored roses. They smelled so sweet and the ardor was powerful. She told me to pluck off the petals and throw them to the river besides me. I did. The roses left my hands with a sweet smelling stickiness. She told me to walk to the center of the river. I got nervous.
''But I can't swim.'' I told her. She didn't acknowledge me. So I walked to the center of the river. The water was cool and reached up to just over my stomach. Instantly the roses started to form a circle around me. I reached to touch one, but before I could brush my fingers over it, they started to glow. I pulled back quickly. Then they started to float in the air. I looked up in alarm to my mother but she was gone. I decided to run for it, but I couldn't move. No matter how much I wanted to, I couldn't move.
Then, the water raised up. The water raised up above my head and crashed over me. I felt the rose petals glide around my body. I felt my body and clothes change. I had been wearing jeans, my converse, and an old school shirt. But as the water and roses swam over me they changed. I could feel it. I just couldn't see it. I couldn't see much of anything. It was as if someone had blindfolded me. As the petals glided around my body I felt ribbons inside my body. Through every part of my insides. It tickled. As much as the petals.
Then I felt the water drain away. But the petals, the petals stayed on me. Stayed at my back more importantly. Then the petals started to burn. They started to burn and attack my back. I wanted to scream. I hurt so badly.
Then, more pain. I felt my back rip open. Literally. I could feel blood spill down. My shoulder blades started to stretch, and I swear I could feel something grow out from them. Then I collapsed on my hands and knees into the water. I didn't feel safe in the water so I started to crawl for shore. The pain from my back started to spread throughout my body which made things harder. When I finally reached shore I rolled onto my back. Like the idiot that I was. I screamed out in pain and rolled onto my stomach. I gasped for air and slowly stood up. When I was finally able to stand I noticed a mirror a few feet away from me. I walked to it, finally able to see. What I saw in my reflection shocked the hell out of me.
I was glowing. I was skinner, but still thick. My hair grew longer and darker. It was down but pulled back in butterfly clips, and in big curls. I had side bangs that framed my face. But my bangs were whitish, blondish, silverish. My eyes were blackish brown with a small outline of red around the I noticed I wasn't in jeans anymore. Instead I was wearing a dark red mini skirt with black tights that reached just to my knees. Instead of my Converse shoes, I was wearing ballet flats. Black ones, with black satin ribbon tied around my calf's. From my shoulders down to my fingers was more ribbon. I had on a couple bracelets and rings on my hands and fingers, all silver. And for earrings I had on my left ear, a small dangling heart with a hoop around it. And on my right ear was a medieval style silver gem holder, with a red pendent at the bottom. At the top of my ear was a little silver stud. Cool.
Instead of a shirt I had on a didn't reach to the skirt, and I found a belly button corset had ruffles of transparent lace down my arms that resembled angel sleeves. I had on a single silver ball-chain, long necklace that reached too a few inches above my belly button. But as I realized for the first time was, I had wings.
Big bloody butterfly wings. They were transparent at first. Bus as I looked close I could start to see color appear. Light pink, red, black, and silver. But then I saw the blood on my wings. My back had literally ripped open. I turned to the side so I could inspect them better. I realized the corset had silver laces across the space of my back that wasn't my wings.
Wow, I told myself. I know it sounded weird, but I looked...amazing for once. To myself anyways. Wow. I slowly reached up to see if this really was real.
''Wow.'' I said out loud. I still was in pain, but my happiness let me forget it. For now.
I noticed my mother appear behind me.
''Mom,'' I started, but found I couldn't say anything else.
''Look again.'' She said smiling. I did. And once again I was shocked.
Around my waist on the left side was a sword. My beautiful gun-blade. On my right side was a pouch of magical arrows. And in my hands was my bow. I looked up and saw a tiara. A purple tiara. With a silver moon crescent on my forehead. And I noticed little tattoos started to appear. With Henna designes and my finders and hands. Butterflies, arrows, roses, and stars. Some on my arms, ankles, on behind my shoulders. Awesome.
''Now, you are a true goddess.'' My mother told me. And for the first time, I believed her.
