Chapter 4: Rays of Fire

Jakara heaved his sword in defense as Druian slashed his blade, in attempt to sever Jakara’s head. The metal sang as the two racked against each other for a brief second.

Druian took a leap, flipped over Jakara’s head, landed behind him, and swung his blade for his neck, but Jakara heard the hiss of the dark sword and ducked just in time. Cursing, Druian took one of his rocks and hurled it at Jakara’s feet.

Startled, Jakara looked down at the rock for a brief second, wondering what evil it could do. It suddenly made a hissing noise and exploded, sending Jakara and some of Kitari’s furniture hurdling in the air. He landed on his back, his sword still amazingly in hand, and was able to shield his face before scraps of wood came crashing down upon him.

Kitari watched in stunned silence on her bed. She hadn’t been hurt by the explosion, because Druian had cast a force field around her, making it so nothing could penetrate. She was trapped, forced to watch the battle. She had shrieked seeing Jakara come crashing to the ground, and couldn’t tell if he was still conscious or even alive, but she was still clinging to hope.

The rubble moved.

Kitari gasped a sigh of relief as Jakara slowly dislodged the broken furniture off of him. She had never seen his angelic face so filled with anger.

“I should’ve known you would cheat, Druian,” Jakara spat, lifting himself off of the floor, with the help of his sword.

“Cheating? Fighting is fighting; I can use any weapon I want to.” Druian grinned, raising his right hand to show off his other bomb. “Now, shall we continue?”

And they were off again.

This time, Jakara promised himself he wouldn’t be so easily humiliated. That had been a close call; a little too close for his comfort.

Jakara whispered a silent prayer, and suddenly his inner light was enhanced. His brilliance was blazing through the room, scaring the shadows away. In his right hand, there suddenly formed a golden trumpet. Not just any golden trumpet, but a holy trumpet.

Jakara blew the trumpet, and suddenly rays of fire came down from above and hovered around him. While the trumpet was still on his lips, Jakara made a sign and the rays of fire left him and started swirling around Druian.

Druian shrieked. He tried to hide his eyes from the light, but it pierced through his dark cloud; he tried to cover his ears from the sound of the trumpet, still ringing in his ears, but not even his shrieks could drown it out; he tried to brush away the dreaded holy feeling of the fire, but it kept burning into his unholy flesh.

Jakara lowered the trumpet from his lips. Raising his sword gloriously, he shouted praise to his Master and leapt toward the shrieking evil. He aimed, and, with all of his strength and more, plunged the blade deep into the heart of Druian.

Druian, displaying the most evil and twisted face, made one last vain attempt to strike at Jakara with his blade. His strength completely drained, he let out a blood-curdling scream and vanished.

It was over.

At that instant Druian had been banned from Earth into the Abyss, and every hold he had on Kitari suddenly vanished and she was set free. Not just her soul, but her body, because she had been held in the force field the whole time.

In her rejuvenate freedom, Kitari leapt off of the bed and laughed such a joyous laugh that at first Jakara was startled. Then he smiled, and realized that Kitari hadn’t felt this happy in a long time.

“I was so worried, Jakara, but you did it. I thank you, from the depths of my heart,” Kitari said, her face beaming with relief and joy. “Now I see: the light always overcomes the darkness.”

“Yes, the light overcomes the darkness, but you have to be willing to overcome it,” Jakara said, smiling knowingly at Kitari. “And don’t thank me. I was only an instrument in the matter. My Master cares more for you than I will ever be capable of.” Jakara raised his head to the heavens.

“Thank you for being His instrument, whatever that means,” Kitari said in a confused tone. She hadn’t heard Jakara talk that way before.

“Kitari?” Jakara said hesitantly.

“Yes, Jakara?” Kitari said.

“Whenever you feel darkness taking over, always remember what I said about my Master. Do not be afraid, and do not give into any demon temptations, no matter what. With the Master, all things are possible.”

“I will always remember that.”

With that, Jakara vanished, his joyous presence still hovering in her heart.
