Tires swerve

Lights flick on

Phones ring at 3 am

We’ll never feel the same again.

Repeat these words in my head

Oh love, hold me!

We were so safe in your bed

But now we’re melting away

Like the tar and the glass and

This night it will never shine the same

Like the stars that twinkled in your eyes

Before they filled with headlights

We fight them off daily

They chase us headfirst

Wrong lane

We fight to look away

But its everywhere, and now where are you my love?

Don’t hide in the cracks of our pavemented lives

These roads they turn and they shine in our eyes

These days they go on forever

So we get to the wheel and drive

Away from it all, leave our city far behind

Where we hid our regrets and our sighs

Behind street signs

Darkened

And our roads, will go on forever

These lanes will never end.

Hold onto my hand like you clutched the seat belt

And we crash forever

In each other’s arms,

We’re safe.
