I remember the “good ol’ days” when I was a kid. I was watching Barney, learning how to share. I was singing along with Sesame Street learning my ABCs and 1,2,3s. I flipped on the TV every morning to watch Mr. Rogers and his little red trolley to learn about how to be a good neighbor.

Recently I’ve looked at what kids are watching now. First there’s Baby Einstein. They play Mozart, Bach and Beethoven in a parent’s desperate attempt to try to make their babies smart. Trust me listening to classical music as a baby does not make you necessarily smarter. My parents are big classical music junkies so I grew up with good old Handel. I look at how my brother turned out and it didn’t really work for him.

There’s an immigrant problem in the US of A and many people are trying to stop it. Then there are shows like Dora the Explorer. This shows that people have pretty much given up on stopping the Mexicans (not that I have anything against Mexicans or immigration). Instead they’re having, Diego and her magical talking backpack (ohhh) teach kids Spanish. KIDS Spanish. I started learning a new language when I was 13 not three.

I was then distraught to learn about the cookie monster on Sesame Street. He’s apparently on a veggie diet at the present time. It ruins the whole show! I don’t want an anorexic monster teaching my kids how to count! Some kids in the world now probably don’t even know what a cookie is. It is quite a tragedy.

So I sit here and ask myself, where’s Mr. Rogers when you need him. Oh yeah, he died. Well, rest in peace!
