Chapter 1

The bell rings and I quickly run to my class. You see, I’m the “new kid” in this school. Although I did make friends quickly, it was still kind of hard because everyone knows you, but they don’t know your name. They always call me the “new kid” or something like that. I’m fine with that but after being here for a couple of months, I think it’s getting a little old. As a matter of fact my name is Cody Bryantello. I just moved from Sedona, Arizona to here, Boston, Massachusetts. It’s a little different here because of the ‘be there on time by the bell’ thing, but I like it. Anyway, the guys love me here because I guess I am the best football player that they have. I play quarterback. My coach says that I’m “quick” and I am “dead-on with your passes”. He doesn’t make sense sometimes, but you can get the picture.

So, as I’m running to my class, English 12, I accidentally bumped into someone. Her name is Chloe Carlston. She’s one of the top cheerleaders in our school. Apparently, we go to the same class and I never realized it. The funny part is that she sits directly behind me in class. I guess I really don’t know my surroundings. Anyway, I helped pick up her stuff and she smiled at me, and walked into the room. I went to my desk and sat next to my best bud Brian Degris. He and I met each other during football try-outs. He’s my receiver.

“Dude, man, can’t you tell that she’s totally checking you out man!” he pointed out. I glared at him, basically telling him that I know and then he stopped.

“I know Brian, you don’t have to point that out, that chick behind you is probably daydreaming about you!” I said. He just smiled a bit and looked behind him. Sure enough she was just dazing into his head. Chloe saw Brian looking at the girl so she kicked her in the leg. And then she whispered to her,

“Ryanne, he’s looking at you right now stop it! Your making a funny face...”

“Huh? Oh, umm... Hi?” she said, with a little embarrassment in her voice. It was kind of funny. I guess her name is Ryanne Smith. Well, it’s was already ten minutes into class and the teacher wasn’t even here. All of us just started to talk when we realized it. I turned around and looked at Chloe and said,

“Hi, um, do you have the last part of the English notes that we took yesterday? I kind of dozed of the rest off the class.”

“Mmmhmm. I have it right here do you want it?” she asked with a smile on her face. She’s really pretty. She has blonde hair with piercing blue eyes, and a wonderful smile. You can tell she’s not a fake like the other girls in this school, well her and Ryanne. Ryanne is pretty too but I really don’t like her as much. She’s in most of my classes and she’s really, really quiet. Also, she really forgets things a lot so Brian always has to tell what we are doing and stuff. I think she’s pretending it so she can get Brian’s attention, and it really works, too. I have a feeling that he likes her too.

“Uh, yes, thanks.” I said and turned around to hear what the principal has to say about our missing teacher. He said,

“Ahem, apparently Mrs. Gramaflynn decided to take the day off without consulting with us first. So, I’ll be your substitute for the class until they find one. So what have you guys been learning about?”

“English.” Someone said in the back, everyone started to laugh. It was Johnny Brackon. He’s a 20 year old senior whose bound to graduate this year. The principal was even laughing too. He’s a cool principal. He doesn’t really stick with the teacher plans. He says that he’ll be cool with us if we cooperate with him. It’s pretty neat compared to my principal I had at my old school.

Class was over, and Brian and I started to walk to our next class, when Chloe came over. She said, “Uh, Cody, do you still have those notes I let you borrow? I like to keep things with me so I don’t lose them”

“Um, can I give them back to you tomorrow? I need to type it up on my computer.” I replied.

“Yeah, the thing is tomorrow we have no school. So, how can you give it back to me?”

“What’s your address? I’ll give it back to you then.”

“Uh, no, why don’t I just email you the last part of the notes. Your email address?”

“Here, let me write it down. Do you want my screen name too?” I asked and she nodded her head yes. I wrote those two down and she went off her way to her next class and me and Brian went to our class.

He’s so cute. I love him. Well, I don’t really know him that much but I can tell that he is sincere. Just the way he smiles and talks. It makes me leave this world and puts me into this fantasy place. He is the only guy that actually makes me feel that way and I’ve only talked to him a couple of times. It’s weird though because most of the guys latch on to me like there was no tomorrow, but Cody, he just seems to take his time, like he wants to get to know me. That’s the first, in my book. Well, I’m walking to my next class which is fine arts, and Ryanne catches up to me. “Chloe! I can’t believe you made him fall for that!!” she exclaimed.

“I know, I wonder how long it’s going to take before he realizes that there is going to be school tomorrow. It’s so funny, but I’m glad I got his email and screen name out of this.”

“Ooh somebody has a crush on the new kid! Don’t ya?!”

“Okay, okay, you caught me!” I said, blushing a bit. I kind of guessed that Ryanne would get a little excited when she found out. I know she likes Brian which is kind of funny. He’s like best friends with Cody. I started to chuckle a little bit. And Ryanne looks at me and asked,

“What? What are you laughing about? Tell me!”

“It’s nothing big Rye... It’s nothing.” I said and walked into my class. Ryanne continued walking to her class too. Which I think is really funny because she’s in the same exact class as Cody and Bryan. Hopefully she doesn’t say anything.

“Brian is there really no school tomorrow?” I asked him. I wasn’t really sure because my mom would remind me that there’s a holiday coming up. She’s always like that.

“Who told you that? Of course there’s school tomorrow.”

“Oh, ooh she’s good. She’s really good. I can’t believe she tricked me!” I said and Brian looked at me like I was a freak.

“What are you talking about man?”

“Chloe told me that there’s no school tomorrow, ‘cos I was going to give back her notes tomorrow, anyway, she told me that there’s no school and so I gave her my e-mail and screen name so she can send it to me.”

“Oh, she got you good man!” Brian said with a little laugh. “Let’s go to class.”

We walked in to our physics class, to find that our desks were positioned weird. We walk to where our desk is supposed to be and I look around to find the teacher. Mr. Nolan is getting his papers in order. I walk up to him, “Hey Mr. Nolan, what’s up with the desks?”

“Well, we have a test today Mr. Bryantello. I expect you remembered?”

A test? I don’t remember this test, but I’m not going to let him know that. I just nodded my head and walked back toward Brian. “A test.” I whispered to him. He just nods his head and we take our seats. Sure enough, Ryanne walks in to the room and finds a seat next to Brian. Sure she’s a nice a girl and all but seriously, does she need to follow Brian around?

“Hey Brian. You studied for the test today?” Ryanne asked.

“Um, not really, didn’t know there was one.”

“Oh, me neither, I just heard about this morning from Brielle.” Ryanne blushes and turns away to talk to Heather, another cheerleader. Brian looks at me with a funny expression. Mr. Nolan banged his pointer stick against the white board, a signal for class is starting.

I couldn’t concentrate the rest of the day, all I could think about was him. I couldn’t focus on my drawings I did in fine art, and then I really couldn’t pay attention to what Ryanne was trying to tell me. I felt bad that I wasn’t listening to her but all I could think about was Cody, and why wasn’t he all over me. I know that sounds really bad but I’m not used to this type of thing. I don’t want to come off as selfish or highly conceited because believe me I’m not. Normally, guys, especially football players would be asking for my number left and right. They never stopped asking me out whenever a dance would come around. It’s my senior year, and in the past four years I’ve been asked out more than fifty times by different guys, and all but two have been rejected. Okay, now I really am sounding conceited.

Anyway, just as I expected when I got home he was on. I was totally psyched, but I didn’t want to come off as desperate so I waited a few minutes before I finally IMed him.

PiNkChEeR1025: Hey!

CardinalsFan12: Hey what’s up?

PiNkChEeR1025: nm, I’m sending you the notes right now. u?

CardinalsFan12: oh great! same here. I know you tricked me earlier today.

PiNkChEeR1025: ooh really now? lol

I can’t believe he fell for that trick. I sent him the last part of the notes to his email, and we talked for a little more before he had to go. Gosh, he’s so perfect.

I talked to her last night it was pretty sweet. I have a feeling that she sort of likes me too. Bryan comes over in the morning to pick me up to go to school. We car-pool to make it easier on us for gas, and this week was his week.

“So, did you talk to her last night?” Bryan asked with a smirk on his face.

“Yeah, for awhile.”

“That’s cool man. I heard a rumor that she likes you dude.” I look at Bryan with a ‘no duh’ expression on my face. I don’t mean to sound cocky, but I kind of gotten that feeling when she talks to me.

“Yeah I can sort of feel that from her. She’s so pretty man.” I said after a few moments of silence. Bryan nods in agreement.

“Yeah, I agree, but her friend isn’t bad looking either.” I knew he was talking about Ryanne. Everyone in this school knows that these two have been on and off again flirting with each other. I knew it the day I came here.

As we pulled in to the school parking lot we almost hit some freshman that decided to cross the street with out looking. These punks are so stupid these days. “Freaking a! Why are these freshies so damn stupid now a days?” Bryan shouted as he slammed on the brakes.

“Exactly what I thought.” I replied as Bryan pulled in to our parking spot.

The bell rang when we walked in to the building letting us know that we have two more minutes to get to class or we’re late. Bryan and I decided to just be late to class and got some breakfast in the cafeteria. We got some bagels and the bell didn’t ring until we both stepped a foot in to the class room. Luckily, our English teacher still wasn’t there. Chloe and Ryanne looked over at us as we made our way to our seats, high-fiving our fellow teammates.

“So, Cody you got the notes?” Chloe asked when I took my seat. I turned around and smiled at her.

“Of course, thank you very much.”

“Good.” Chloe smiled back, and I turned back around to face the front when I heard Mrs. Gramaflynn tap her ruler against her desk. That was her signal for class to start. English was boring, except for the fact that every time I turned to say something to Bryan I saw Ryanne staring at the back of his head. I had to laugh to myself, but I guess I did that out loud once because everyone was staring at me.

“Mr. Bryantello, would you like to share with us what was so funny?” Mrs. Gramaflynn asked. I looked behind her and saw that she had written ‘ass’ on the board.

“Um, that it says ‘ass’ on the board ma’am.” I lied. Everyone laughed at this and it made the teacher turn a shade that was the same color as her outfit, crimson red. She turned back around and finished writing the word ‘association’ on the board. I leaned over to Bryan and whispered, “Don’t look behind you but I just want to let you know someone’s been staring in to your brain for the past ten minutes now.”

Bryan gave me a weird look, then he mouthed ‘Oh!’. He made a half smile and wrote down what ever was on the board.

“What’s wrong with me Chloe?” Ryanne asked when we walked out of English.

“I don’t know, maybe it’s just that your taken by love.” I replied, thinking about myself at the same time. We always said we’d have our soul mates at the same time. I think the time has really come.

“Yeah, I think you’re right. I mean, you were almost like that today!” I looked at Ryanne with my mouth dropped.

“I was, oh my gawd, that’s so embarrassing. I hope he didn’t see me.”

“I don’t think so but I’m sure enough Cody saw me stare in to the back of Bryan’s head because when we got up to leave class Bryan turned around and smiled at me. You know Chloe that’s like the first time he’s done that-” Ryanne kept babbling on and on about Bryan. We continued our usual routine of walking to my class as she turns to walk across the hall and walk in to hers. The day went buy pretty quick after that. I had cheerleading practice right after school, so Ryanne and I met by the locker rooms. Luckily, the football team has their practice the same time, so I get to see Cody.

Two hours of intense practicing for our competition meant, we’d be practicing inside, not out. I never got to see Cody practice, but tomorrow is a game, so I’ll be able to see him then.

A/N: Do you like it so far? This isn't the end of chapter one, but I wanted to get this out here. I need feedback please because I'm new to writing stories.
