:: Sophisticate ::

I pretend to be sophisticated;
Anything you can tell me, I
Already know it;
I read all of those modern feminist poets.
They write about letterheads,
And fathers' deaths, divorce, memo texts,
Men, sex, and cigarettes.
Yet I still claim to be a girl.
I love white dresses.
I wear barettes.
Guess I never stopped dressing up.
Only now instead of red lipstick,
Mother's shoes, bejeweled purses,
I'm all tangerine smiles,
Dark wash jeans and careless curses.
Motivation has changed but
I'm still the same.
