Decline Your Offer

If I decline your offer
Will you leave a raincheck

Because I know I’m not ready
To divulge all that to you

When you whisper in my ear
And tell me all the good

When you touch me softly
Never letting a space remain untouched

I know what you are trying to do
And if I let you in, you’ll win

Struggling has become too difficult
Letting you rust on me isn’t an option either

So if I decline your offer
Will you let me be in peace

You know the fragility of my heart
The fickle way it comes and goes

And yet you linger on in me
Never allowing seconds to pass without

But, again I am not ready to indulge
And, again you are too eager

When you come to me at night
And take away the pain with a sedative

When I awaken to find that you were never
Never what I wanted, never what I needed

Let me be to recover what I’ve lost
To mend what I have torn to shreds

It’s not you fight anymore
My battle is too burdensome

So, I ask, if I decline your offer
Will you leave me broken soul alone
