Author’s Note: This book is far, far from complete. Just as a word of warning. It is also the second book in a series (I really need to stop starting so many series books!!). Furthermore, I have never let anyone read anything I have written before it was completely finished and heavily edited. Mainly because I have a habit of changing things around once I’ve actually finished the book. So fair warning to those of you reading these chapters as I post them—they might be rougher than my usual work, and they might end up changing down the road. But hey, maybe posting a chapter at a time will motivate me to finish the book quicker. We’ll see.

Prologue

From the Appendices to The History of Merata, a section on other important lands

Nubanynn

I have chosen not to write an entire book on the other countries in our fair world, reserving only these small sections in the back of my history on Merata. In my opinion, they just aren’t as bloody important. Maybe that’s biased of me, I don’t know. Personally, I much prefer Merata’s perfect combination of all of the worst qualities of each country. There is always something new and exciting going on.

Not so in Nubanynn. In fact, ever since the great war that caused the country to become one, Nubanynn has done nothing but tell the same story over and over again.

Even the names of the King and Queen have remained the same, as per tradition.

The only changes that have occurred in Nubanynn, with any degree of certainty, are that the poor have gotten poorer while the rich have gotten richer. And no one, especially not those in charge of making and amending the laws, has done anything to correct this. Why should the monarchy care? They are, and always will be, rich. That’s all the matters. Right?

Right.
