Journal Entry -- Pompeii
I have made a mistake to stay here in my beloved home of Pompeii. The volcano has erupted and there is a chance that I will not survive: never to breathe the air again, never to smell the wonderful smell of flowers. The anger of the great Mount Vesuvius is tremendous. I wish it weren’t so.
The Gods must be furious with us to punish us so viciously. My home will soon be reduced to nothing, my body will become a limp figure trapped under hot lava. The ash is now falling like a burning rain. The dark cloud surrounding us chokes the air from my lungs.
I led my dog to safety when this tragedy first struck. My family went with him, but I returned to my home to see what would happen, and what a fool I was. Now I must remain here till the end.
To my family I send my love. May they remain well, healthy, and love. I will miss them dearly. Perhaps, they will one day return and find this entry. Now, my time has come and sadly I must say goodbye.
When I die, I will find my way to the River Styx and go into the kingdom of Hades. I will miss this world, and those I leave behind. Farewell to you all, do not despair. The Gods will not stay angered for long.
