Remember when I took you aside
And opened my ribs for you?
It gave you a start when I pulled out my heart
And gave it to you to view.

“It’s yours, of course,” I quickly explained
“That is if you really want it.”
And as I bled you scratched your head
Seemingly undaunted.

And then you handed it back to me
And pinched me on the chin
“Sorry, you see, it’s not for me,”
You said with a little grin.

I looked at you with empty eyes
And I could barely think
My knees soon buckled as you chuckled
And gave me a little wink.

Remember when I clung to you
Bleeding at your feet?
My eyes were dry, I couldn’t cry
And my heart just wouldn’t beat?

It fell from my hand with a sickening squish
As the life light left my eyes
My death was slow, you turned to go
Impatient for my demise.

Remember when you walked away
Because you had a lot to do?
And in your rush my heart you crushed
Underneath your shoe?

You don’t? Well
I guess that you meant more to me
Than I ever did to you.
