Authors Note When you come across the word "scour" near the end of the poem, in this case, it will mean "to free from impurities as if by washing"(symbolically, "washing" with sunlight).
Forever Blossom
There was a pristine Flower,
who would not bloom.
Her petals would not open.
For no sunlight, she would be in doom.
One hasty morning,
a Falcon came as a passerby.
He soared over the Flower,
zipping and zooping like a fly.
The Falcon noticed the Flower
amongst the trees.
The Flower was hiding not blossoming;
The shade made her freeze.
“Dear Flower,” spoke the Falcon.
“You do not blossom when you hide in shade.”
The Flower spoke to the Falcon.
“For there’s no sunlight, I shall fade.”
The Falcon shook his acute head,
refusing to believe what the Flower had said.
“I will go get the sunlight,” said he.
“I will fly and bring it back to thee.”
The Flower disagreed,
insisting that she could try to bloom once more.
But when she tried to bloom,
with no sunlight, she grew sore.
“Do not try to bloom again,” said the Falcon.
“For you will die.”
The Falcon began flapping his wings,
noting that the Flower began to cry.
“I do not want to die,” sobbed the Flower.
“You really will bring back sunlight?”
The Falcon nodded his acute head.
And with that, he flew out of sight.
Up towards the sun he flew,
hoping he would be back soon.
Closer and closer he came towards the sun,
its coloring adamancy like a desert dune.
Now the Falcon’s wings began to smoke,
charred with the sun’s agonizing burn.
The heat ate away the Falcon’s body.
No longer near the sun, he made an abrupt turn.
The Falcon had become a phoenix,
a creature of light and rebirth.
Traveling in the direction of the Flower,
the Phoenix struggled to not fall to the Earth.
As he fell towards the Flower
his body began to glow.
The light made every living creature beautiful,
turning an elderly deer into a young doe.
The last of the Phoenix’s vibrant light
nearly died off before reaching the Flower.
Just before the Phoenix weakened and died,
his life-giving ray made the decrepit scour.
And with the Phoenix’s final life-giving ray,
the Flower blossomed that very day.
